The Blue Coop

Very nice coop! I also love the front ventilation as our climate here in zone 7B (or A?) is probably similar to yours. How many chickens do you plan to house in this coop and run?

Thanks, Elmo! I stole it from someone else, so go for it.

Peepless- I think Nashville is in that same climate zone. Our last winter was the harshest that we've seen in a while. It got really cold for a bit, but for the most part it was decent. Last year I did cover the coop windows with plastic to keep drafts out. The chickens never seemed to notice the cold. They all just hunkered down together and were fine. I figure the window up high will cut down on direct drafts. The roost is well below that opening so they don't sit in the line of fire. In the summer I went with heat rising.

My plan is to have 9-ish in there. They are only inside to roost and lay. The rest of the time will be out in the run. At least that's what my other chickens do in the other coops. It's pleasant enough here year round that they are never in the coop. We'll see how it goes. If there are crowding problems I'll just rearrange them again.
