Meet Sooty, my bantam x Aracauna rooster.
Sooty and his love, Lucy Rose, have been joined at the wing a little too closely of late. She has some severe damage to her shoulders from his excess attention, and we've had to seperate her until her new 'apron' arrives. We're also introducing some new ladies to him, as two of our hens passed away within a week of each other.
Sooty is NOT INTERESTED in his new ladies. Instead he hovers anxiously outside her pen, and tries to feed her through it! Tonight he was so upset that she had gone to bed in a seperate coop (they can see each other the whole time) that he literally sobbed as we escorted him to be with his new laaaaadieeez.
He loves Lucy so much: every day he escorts her to the coop, prepares the nest for her, and then waits for her to finish laying.
What is this? Rooster monogamy? He's had the new girls for two weeks now, but all we wants is his Lucy.
Does he only like big girls? Lucy is a full grown ISA brown, and is slightly bigger than Sooty! What a pair.
