The Brooding of Allie, Casey and Latte

Well I have an extension. Looks like now I might disappear tomorrow, but I got to come back this evening

I weighed and played with the 'lings without the camera so far. Don't know if I will get a chance to take new pics this evening or not... So I'll give you what I've got.

Allie: 1lb,3.8oz - up 20% - at this point she is growing by multiple ounces/day so I am going to drop the decimal ounces so: 1lb, 4oz (or 1-1/4 lb WOW!).
Latte: 11.3oz - up 14%
Casey: 11.6oz - up 16% - she isn't giving up the number 2 slot without a fight!

Here is my walking out the door pic from this morning... Bye, bye babies. Ooops, I'm back today.

And here is their current chart - Pekin Power is truly amazing!!!

BTW - Allie gets around (so far) much better than Snow ever did - She still lays down a lot, but when she is up, her legs are strong and sure. I am attributing this to putting the food about 18" from the water. I did separate the food and water in my initial brood eventually, but this time I did it from the get go. This forces the ducklings to run back and forth and helps build those leg muscles. Before I separated them, Snow got in the habit of laying down between the food and the water so she could just turn her head back and forth and by the time I moved them, her legs were behind the power curve so she had a hard time (she could walk but was kind of weak) until she hit her first semi-stable weight of 6 lbs then her leg strength caught up to her weight and she was fine after that. We will see if I am right as Allie goes through the multi-pound sizes...

The 'lings finished their first 5lb bag of starter crumble.

Now they get a 50lb bag.

When they are done with that, it is over to the All Flock crumble I bought by mistake

OK, I got all the weights and updated the chart:

Today's weights:

Allie: 2lbs, 1oz.
Latte: 1lb, 2oz.
Casey: 1lb, 2oz.

They are all over the size of a Call Duck, and Allie is half the weight of a grown Runner. They are getting the first signs of feathers. Allie is still walking strong (not shaking), but her stamina is down. Unless she has a good reason, 3 or 4 steps, then time for a break... Poor girl... in 16 days she has grown to 19X her weight and although her legs are ripped like a body builder, they just can't keep up.

I will get some good pictures this weekend, but for now, here is this...

@Debs Flock , see what happens when I just take a picture and post it... I tell ya, the secret is all the pics you don't show everybody

(decent picture of the rocks though).

LOL...the blurry pic of ducklings in action! Gosh, they grow up too fast!

I stopped by our post office to let them know that a box of ducklings will arrive next week. They said their truck arrives around 6:30 and they'll call me then. She said I wouldn't be allowed to pick them up until they open at 9:00! I'm going to call them to see if I can't persuade someone to let me come earlier.

Same thing with my post office, but they open at 8. They told me I couldn't come any sooner but by the time I got everyone out the door it was 8:30 anyway. I got the call at 7 that they had arrived.

Wow, they are growing up so fast!! :hit

Strap books to their heads, maybe they'll stay little 'lings longer... :gig

Deb, I hope you can get them when they come in... :/

Nothing I can do to slow them down, but VP and DF will help extend the 'ling season. And I heard someone else got a brand new Snowy...

So the 'ling exposure prospects look good even though mine won't be 'lings much longer...

Today's weights and roll call
big_smile.png

Allie: 2lbs, 6oz - in true Pekin form, she has something to say about it...

Casey: 1lb, 5oz - She is still not ready to be the "little one." She is showing off her advanced sleeping technique. (Tevye still has a hard time with this.)

Latte: 1lb, 4oz. A little color is coming in above her wing.
