The Broody Duck Thread for 2014

Thanks, ya I had to separate her and fence it off cuz the Khaki's kept sticking their head in there and bothering her. lol I really hope she hatches a few and that they will look just like mom and dad. That is so long to have to just sit.

Chick crumb then not layer too much calcium for lil bodies, also get some Brewers yeast to sprinkle on top just to make sure they get enough B3.

I'm ordering a lavender Hinnie, ok? Or is it mule? I get mixed up. Congrats, they're so sweet.

Thanks. :) As I understand it, hinnies are offspring from a female Muscovy with a domestic drake and a mule is the other way around. If you were local, I'd be happy to give you a lavender hinnie duckling.

Good news, everyone! The rescued baby made it!

I went down and checked her nest today while she was off for breakfast and found 3 eggs in the process of hatching. The furthest along, however, had an exhausted duckling stuck in a dried membrane, as did the next to hatch. I took them to the house, helped them finish, and also took the third one that was making progress, which also had a fairly dry membrane that was sticking to the duckling. All three are fine now, hatched out, and drying in the incubator.

How do I tell my mama duck to increase her humidity?

She still has a few eggs to go... Guess I'll check her at dinner time.

Still no progress on the 4 eggs fostered over to crazy mama.

Patti, I would love to give you ducklings and a gosling from Chicory/Beignet, as I let her sit on 3 of her own eggs (plus 2 whites) and I fully expect her to hatch babies in a couple of weeks.

Does she have water to bath in? that's one way they keep the humidity up, surprised she would get off the nest while ducklings are hatching to exposing them to air. which dries out membrane too.

Thanks Miss Lydia. 3 weeks sounds perfect - that's when Snowy's 15 eggs are due to hatch at which time I want to move Snowy into the room Mother Buttless is in now with her babies.

Meet Mother Buttless, Sneakers, Goldie, Tux & Zorro!

Patti, I have a feeling you will have beautiful goslings from your pair.... but if not, I will be happy to figure out some way to get you goslings from my pair.

Hang in there @lbrykowski2011 doesn't it seem like it was just yesterday we were neck deep in snow? And look, it's already May! It will be okay! :)
