~The Broody Thread~

So I have a Speckled Sussex who is about 11 mos old, and she’s gone broody for the first time, it’s been about 3 days now. I go out to the nesting box about 2 Xs a day to force her out to get food and water. She’s all kinda mad, fluffed up and growling at me 🤣🤣🤣. We’ve been shutting the door to the nesting box area at night to try to force her to sleep with the other ladies, and to hopeful break this broody cycle. We don’t have any roosters, and my chicks are now 3 months old, so that’s not going to work…. Do I continue to let her be broody, do I continue to try to stop her broody-ness? Any tips/ tricks/ advice?

If you don’t have a rooster, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can put her in Broody Jail, which can just be an elevated cage, preferably with no nesting material. She may need to stay in jail for a few days.

Wouldn’t recommend “it”- as in “it” being letting her remain broody ? Sorry I just want to make sure I understood.

Well this isn't the best place for me to be. But @NagemTX your broody magic over at the old thread DID work! One of the bantams went broody one weeks after your spell. She broke two weeks later but it did work!
Dang she has my Spitzhaubens lack of tenacity.

My breaking broody process is I toss the broody out the backside of my coop/run where has woods to forage, food and water but can't get in the Run or Coop. At lockup time she's pretty frantic to get in, I let her in and make her go to a roost bar instead of next box. It usually only takes 2-3 days. But I have a BO that is just consistently broody, like every other month, so determined to be a momma which is impossible I don't have a Rooster. And I'm not going to just let her make chicks to make her happy, I like my new chick process which does not include her. SO I hate to get even tougher on her but... :idunno
