The Buckeye Thread

There will surely be a bunch of buckeyes at the ON! Just be mindful and challenge everything...there will be exhibitors there showing buckeyes that really know nothing about the breed.

And too... a bunch of Buckeye folks who think they know everything.

If I'm not terribly mistaken....that is indeed helping the buckeye breed! It's missing 16 points in 2011 for the district meet in Connersville, IN for 16 more points....for a total of 91 for buckeyes.....I secured at least 24 more this year for a total of no less than 114 in buckeyes alone in just 4 years showing the breed and the year isn't up yet :)....that's definitely not hindering the breed with a closed mind ;) this is proof that I know exactly what the breed should be, how to reproduce it and how to feed this breed. The birds are continually improving and in 4 more years the sky is the limit. I started posting a couple years ago on BYC and met nothing but scrutiny and disagreements with how the breed "should" look and be bred.....to this date.....those individuals have since left and still have not even close to any type of consistency in showing or breeding a favorable buckeye! People need to really take a look at this....it isn't a coincidence! When I say the ALBC line is nothing more that backyard utility birds that lack the ability to be consistently shown successfully (key word...consistently), there is all kinds of information to support this view....actually I challenge people to look at the birds from this line produced currently and compare them to birds 3...4...5.....6 years ago....they were actually better a few years ago!! ;) so what does that say about the breeders capabilities? People need to be open minded and look at this breed more critically.....when breeding poultry you will never be able to maintain quality.....the birds will be progressing or regressing.....it's up to the breeders to select the birds to head in the perspective direction....the quality of the breeder is measured by the quality of the birds produced!!

Congratulations to Shumaker farm. It's nice to finally see it officially and and in print. The first ever Buckeye breeder to get master exhibitor status. That is quite a feat considering they've been around for over 100 years. Great job! I imagine that there are a few people who are very unhappy about what their eyes are seeing.

And the great thing is, I'm more than willing to help anybody that asks for it!!

Joe,

I remember a lot of the grief you were given here on BYC and elsewhere. You were told to put up or shut up and some were even more unkind than that. What you have demonstrated is that anyone willing to work toward a goal with intelligence and forethought will be able to make it and to do so in a fairly short period of time. I'm reminded of Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan when I see this accomplishment of yours. My dad hated Ali's cockiness and brassy attitude. The fact was, Ali backed up his bravado with results. Jordan did much the same. He didn't have to tell anyone he was the greatest player on the court, he just did his job an kept setting records. I know a number of people take delight when you don't end up on champion row, but even more, think it's great what you've accomplished and look forward to many more.

I have no doubt that Joe has earned every accolade and perhaps deserves more. However, I don't think he's prepared to rest on his laurels. One need not to be a savant to have a pretty good idea where some additional awards will be manifest.
