The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

For mats I use concrete blocks(12 inch then pavers), everything else they chew on. Maybe not the rabbits I have now but in the past that was an issue. I am going to try to build pens for all my rabbits because wire floor and rex rabbits do not mix due to the short fur. I am going to peroxide on their hocks daily (the 2 rabbits with small furless spots) That can't be licked off and hopefully fur returns. I am considering lining all the pens with hay so they have a softer floor because right now its concrete.

The house I’m building mine is wood flooring. I haven’t finished but I’m hoping to this weekend. It may take a while though because it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow.

Hurricane Lauras last stand... we are likely going to get 1 to 4 hours of rain from that but its mostly passing north of us last time I checked. We actually need the rain since we haven't had a good rain in about a week or 2. I had to go back to watering plants. I also need some heavy rain so I can inspect the rabbit pens and how they handle rain. The first pen is done with water proofing but the 2nd needs a rain inspection. The issue with rabbit pens is that they need so much air flow that wind driven rain and splattering water coming off the shade shrubs gets in and I have to install preventative angled boards that allow air in while keeping water out. I prefer a heavy rain now before it gets cold so when I get wet during the inspection I do not get cold too.

I let the female white Rex out of her cage and she struggled to move at first. I believe it was the first time in her life she was not in a cage. The guy I bought brought them to the buying location with a carrier cage with both rabbits crammed in a time space. I arrived with a large van with 2 giant cages and immediately they already had it better. These 2 new rabbits are not as friendly, they kick when I try to hold them. Tomorrow the male is going to get some leash time because I get the feeling he needs exercise. I am about to head out and build some caves/tunnels for the females pen like my other female rabbit has. maybe spending time with the new rabbits might calm them down.

I've been reading your posts and I'm glad you're taking this little guy in! :) I hope you have fun with your rabbit and I'm glad to see you are getting great help here.

Poor guy, though. Hopefully he's just dirty and needs some good cleaning. Unless you've researched this (then sorry!), you could probably spot-treat his fur with water to clean it (only if it's really bad though) and be sure to give him a good groom. It'll also help you be able to look him over, too, even if you are gonna bring him to the vet. My one rabbit gets pee stains on her fur for some reason (lol she's just messy I guess, her cage is very clean) so I often trim the dirty fur with scissors. It may help you to trim off any dirty fur, just don't trim too much and don't really do his paws since you don't want to cut down the padding on his feet.

Hopefully he doesn't have any sore hocks; wire should be fine so long as it is the right size and they are given mats to take a break from it. Dunno what his condition is though. I have a lionhead so I know how furry they are; combined with an angora he should have thick fur so hopefully no sore socks!
Thank you ❤️ the owner sent me a vid of the rabbit and he also has ticks :( the tick was huge enough that i could see it in the video

The vet will be able to recommend what treatment to use. Use tweezers to pluck them out. You can use a dog flea comb (a lot of people use these for grooming anyways) after and that'll help get any little ones out. Don't bathe him though. He'll go into shock, he could get hypothermia, and rabbits aren't ment to be in water. If he's really dirty you can use a damp cloth.
