The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Hi everyone! Hope you and your bunnies are all doing well. Niven here is going in to be spayed this week (scary!). The vet we chose is about 30 minutes away (assuming good traffic) and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how best to set up her transport carrier for the big day. It is a medium sized hard sided dog crate. When she went in for a checkup I just filled it with a big pile of hay. But for surgery day I was thinking something softer would be better. Maybe shredded paper, or a blanket? Any other tips for post recovery life would be much appreciated!

Love those ears!

I would just put a puppy pad down (with the plastic trimmed off so she doesn't eat it) with a blanket on top and a big handful of hay in the back. Bring a grocery bag and extra blanket in case she pees on it.
Some people bring a portable pitter box but for just 30 mins she probably doesn't need one

Awesome! Is this a problem in your area? I know it’s pretty rampant in Europe, but unsure how widespread it is in the US.
I am not sure exactly how prevalent it is. But NM Game and Fish put out a statement a year ago confirming RHVD-2 induced deaths in both wild and domestic rabbits in the southern part of the state. We have a huge native rabbit population (cottontails and jackrabbits) and the statement indicated they expected the virus to continue to spread throughout the state. I figure the $30 for the shot was worth peace of mind about taking Niven outside for exercise.
