The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

I think the real trick there is to remember it's for stupid people. This is 75% of their diet that isn't the free choice hay they also suggest using. This is basically listed this way to stop people from feeding their pet rabbits buckets of treats.

🤔It's also worth noting that lots of people feed pellet only diets, especially in meat rabbits. I won't say it's good for their long term health but it doesn't cause any sudden deaths.
When I had my lops all those years back the vet I was seeing (who was admittedly a BIT of a dingus) told me to feed timothy-based pellets and hay free choice (same instructions listed on the care sheet). Something high in fiber and low in protein like the fiber 3, the oxbow, or the kaytee forti-diet could easily be good for rabbit longevity. Even the House Rabbit Society suggests feeding timothy pellets at the same rate listed in the petsmart sheet.

This vet article suggests a similar, but lesser amount;

Vet tech article suggesting a diet that a high quality complete pellet could provide without hay;

There's really no room for nuance in those care sheets like "Your rabbit doesn't need pellets if you give them all these other things". They have to get the info out and into the customers brain quickly.
I do Timothy pellets, hay (different kinds mixed) then I give 2 cups or greens/other things.

Mine always have hay and pellets

I won’t let my cat out. He’s not declawed and is a great cat. Never scratches my stuff
when my cat was young, and I had 2 then, all my furniture was made out of scratching posts. I built my couch and kitchen table and all my end tables with Sisal Rope wrapped around the legs. I ended up laughing at the Vet that told me I needed to declaw my cats. Even if my cats lived inside full time there was no reason to declaw them.

I would never declaw I find it cruel... just like crow collars

it would be like cutting off the fingers of a human, I could never do it either. Cats need those claws.
Yeah exactly! Plus it’s bone I’m pretty sure so it hurts. I would like to see all these people go cut their fingers or toes off at the knuckles and see how much they like it.

I also cannot believe a practicing veterinarian would ever recommend such a thing! :eek: I’m amazed they haven’t lost their license or whatever.

Yeah like cutting your fingers off at the middle knuckle.

I really don’t like when dogs ears and tails are clipped. I also don’t see the point in declaw removal. It’s there for a reason!

The vets just want money. I've done a lot of research on dog food and they recommend the absolute worst dog food ever. Science hills diet. Dogs have died from that stuff. It has a bunch of unneeded stuff and barely any meat. But, if all the dogs were sick from eating that stuff that means the vet is going to get money. If the dogs were healthy no one would need to go to the vet often.
It's sad how everything is about money nowadays.

Why... it’s normal to do that to a cat or so society thinks

That’s not a bad food depending on what you get. I feed Purina One Smartblend... some people say Purina sucks but my dads dog lived to 17 on it. Plus I know many cats who eat Purina One and live forever.

I understand why they dock tails. It's because the tails are sensitive and if it got hurt it could be painful for the dog. And when people needed to grab to dog to protect them they wouldn't hurt they tail by accident.
It's mainly for hunting dogs or ratters, such as Yorkies who were bred to hunt and kill mice and rats.
Ear trimming is just for looks. It makes them look more aggressive. This isn't fair to the dog as it has no purpose but to look intimidating.
