The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Y'know, I'm not here to butt into anything or make controversy, but I've always found it really interesting people have been so adamant about giving their rabbits daily greens. I've never given my rabbits daily greens, they get them as a treat. They've lived on unlimited timothy hay and a quarter cup of pellets (for 2 rabbits) once a day for years without one issue. They are healthy and happy. I've even owned my one rabbit for 8 years, my other I've had since she was under a year old, so she's been on this diet practically her whole life. I just don't see why rabbits supposedly need greens. Is it something to do with extra nutrients found in them? For extra foliage to promote a better gut and digestive tract? I've never actually researched why.

Nothing against people who do, I've always just been curious about the topic! Perhaps your friend's rabbits were a special case? Or maybe it differs from rabbit to rabbit...
Honestly, I like giving them greens and my buns enjoy getting them. However, when I was a kid most folks with bunnies did like you do. From what I read it gives them more moisture in the diet which is good for their kidneys and bladder. In the wild they eat a variety so I like to do that for mine.

I make my bunnies a salad and myself a salad for salad dates😂 salads are great for humans too!

Are Cucumbers good for Rabbits? Both leaves and the fruit... From time to time i get a Cucumber with a pickle worm in it and I just cut off the infected part but when I start getting more cucumbers than I can handle I would give them to the rabbits. I also Prune leaves, some of them still healthy.

Yes they're fine. From what I've read no rhubarb, potatoes, avocados, mushrooms, kidney beans or broad beans, iceberg lettuce. Limit cabbage, carrots, corn and cauliflower, spinach. No nightshades as far as leaves and stems.

Don’t give them too much because it can give them diarrhea because it’s mostly water based.

I think something tried to attack one of my rabbits last night, Rabbit is fine, I have a cage under their cages that keeps predators from having access to the bottom, and they can move to the middle of the cage to go untouched from predators. I found the feeder and water bottle knocked off one of the cages. Rabbit was just fine, he was hopping around normally, no panic. Seemed happier than usual even. But I had to put the feeder and water bottle back up. The Rabbit Pen is near completion. I can only really put one rabbit in the pen at a time but I can hang a cage in the pen so no predators can access the cage.
