That’s not a bad food depending on what you get. I feed Purina One Smartblend... some people say Purina sucks but my dads dog lived to 17 on it. Plus I know many cats who eat Purina One and live forever.

I like purina. Not the kind we currently use due to allergies but it would be my second choice.

I really don’t like when dogs ears and tails are clipped. I also don’t see the point in declaw removal. It’s there for a reason!

I’ve actually seen some articles and videos recently about the dew claws and they really do have a purpose! They’re actually attached to a lot of major tendons and help with stopping and turning fast, twisting, etc. and even getting out of the ice! Plus Gator always held stuff with his. A lot of dogs also get arthritis in the wrist when they have had theirs removed. Mostly working dogs doing repetitive motions like agility and hunting dogs but still. They are there for a reason. A lot of breeders are starting to leave them on again now. It would be like cutting off your thumb. At least the front ones. Idk about the back ones.

I understand why they dock tails. It's because the tails are sensitive and if it got hurt it could be painful for the dog. And when people needed to grab to dog to protect them they wouldn't hurt they tail by accident.
It's mainly for hunting dogs or ratters, such as Yorkies who were bred to hunt and kill mice and rats.
Ear trimming is just for looks. It makes them look more aggressive. This isn't fair to the dog as it has no purpose but to look intimidating.

I still don’t understand the point of docking tails. Beagles are one of the best hunters and don’t have docked tails. Bloodhounds are another great hunter with no docked tail.

I believe docking should be illegal. It serves no purpose. I grew up with hunters and not 1 docked tails. It’s for looks nothing else... A tail is there for a reason, not to be chopped off.

Purina is good but I’m still not sure on the science one haha I used to be a bit of a food snob or whatever but ever since the DCM stuff came out I’ve realized it’s not that bad. Plus I switched the cat to Purina One Sensitive Skin & Stomach or whatever and she is doing amazing on it and it’s only like $7 or whatever as opposed to like $18 or $20 for Wellness I got sick of paying lmao

That’s not why they dock the tails though at least not for most of them. The tails are for looks too. It’s in the show standard. Some countries have banned cropped/docked tails and ears. Also lots of dogs have docked tails and the ears. Not just little terriers or whatever. Boxers, Rotties, Dobes, etc. usually all do it too and Aussies, ACD, etc.

The cattle dogs they claim it’s so they don’t get stepped on by cows or whatever but yet Border Collies and other breeds have tails and work just fine

I can see if the dog gets actually injured like “happy tail” or whatever where they bloody it and it needs to be docked for medical reasons but I do not believe in just docking it just because or on the off chance it might get hurt or whatever. It also might not.

Plus dogs communicate soooo much using their tails and are at a serious disadvantage without it imo.

It is illegal in some countries and I think the dogs there look so much prettier with natural tails and ears ever seen an Aussie with a full tail!? It is a gorgeous thing.

But, in all seriousness, about half of all aussies are naturally bobbed, much like corgis. And the way aussies herd is a little different than BCs because they get right up on the animal if you let them. So it's not all that surprising that the breed standard was developed for bobtails/docked tails in some herding breeds. After all, if it got hurt in the field it's a long trip into town, whereas a docked tail is clean and safe.

Not that I actually have strong feelings either way. I wouldn't be sad if it got banned or anything, more like I see the practicality of it when it was developed. I love my little bobtail boy. And he gets along WAY better with other dogs than my other two with full tails.

I have a Yorkie with a.docked tail. Her nickname is bunny tail.
Since Yorkies were bred to hunt mice it was likely that their tails would get hurt and it would be painful and hard to heal. They started docking them to keep them safe.
Now it's more of a tradition for shows and such.
