The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Hmm, we turned a lot of rabbits into chunks for sausage this week. Currently we have 4 gallons of boneless rabbit meat in the freezer from our culls. We have four fryer culls left but might trade them for some deer meat when all is said and done. The meat mostly came from White and Donuts litters but we also processed an older buck. He was harlequin half rex with a bit of a head tilt, so between the fact that we have a harlequin colored rex furred buck and a super ideal tricolored buck there was no room for a slightly malformed harlequin with regular fur any more. Thanks for feeding us Tilty. <3 He filled up more than a gallon bag all on his own.

Donut and Golden Experience should be expecting litters very soon. Donut should be expecting Tilty's last ever breeding - we're hoping to get a harli doe from the pairing - and Golden is expecting Tiny Tims, which is exciting because that's a VERY promising pairing of two pedigreed show winners.

We have a litter of five growing out from Stripes but they're all really unimpressive, TBH. Her next breeding will be in 2 months, probably to Tri, but maybe to our harli buck.

Next we'll be breeding White again and probably our blue otter doe we hung onto for her nice body type. We have a couple months on Donuts nice looking kits before we can breed them.

Im PMing you

I have a seal mini rex doe who is due to kindle on the 17th i was wondering what colors her kits could be
The doe sire is a broken black otter
And her dam is a broken black
The buck is a black otter and both his parents are black otters

Uh, mostly black and brown. Seal is a little weird, I'm not overly familiar with how the chinchilla genes interact with the tan at gene that causes otter. In any case those are some fairly dominant genes, so your parents are probably;

Assuming your seal isn't secretly agouti. It can be hard to tell.

So your most likely babies will be black otters. You will probably get a lot of those, potentially miscolored. But depending on what genes are hiding you could get Himalayans, albinos, seals, or even harlequin or red rabbits. No way to tell unless you had more info on the genetics of the parents.
What you won't get is broken or dilute colors, no chocolate or blue or spotted rabbits. And no vienna, dutch marked or blue eyed white.

ok thank you what do you mean by miscolored :)

Well, misscolored as in not able to be shown. Like a seal otter is technically possible but I don't think it's a showable color. I could be wrong though. I just don't know what color it would be considered. I've never seen one and don't do much work on the C locus since my rabbits are all full color or albino.

How has everyone and their rabbits been? :)

I thought I'd share this funny picture of Lion my sister got when I was trimming his nails yesterday--he HATES his nails getting done and he always throws fits. He was pretty good through most of it this time--but you can see he was NOT happy about it lol!
Have you ever tried to hold him differently when you do his nails?

i have a doe who is due on the 17th today i put in her nest box she has not started haystashing yet should i be concerned she has been digging at the corners of her cage i dont know if that means anything or not

She may be considering one of those corners as a nesting site. Some does don't nest until the night of kindling though. Keep an eye out for pulled fur. Check back frequently the day before, of and after she's due.
