The Bunny Chat Thread - For Bunny Owners

Well the 3 tiny ones didn’t make it. I’m pretty sure they were peanuts. Last night we had another litter born. I was only expecting like 3 from each rabbit. Especially this little black doe. But she had 5, and I think they all came out fat. After learning more about the breed standards, I think she is my best rabbit. And my black buck isn’t far behind her.
I really like the opals, and castors, Harlequins, and otters. I’m already thinking I’ll park down in the fall, and get some larger rabbits. Rex, and New Zealand both sound appealing right now.

When it comes to molting, I am much more of a plucker than a brusher. Do a plucking session every day. Try to keep the extra hair out of her litter box or cage so that she doesn't eat too much of it. I like to feed extra nutrition like BOSS and whole oats during molting.

Thanks for the advice! I clean her litter boxes everyday, but hadn’t thought to clean the rest of her crate. There was enough hair in there to make a second rabbit Got it all cleaned up though and am keeping a careful eye out for new fur piles.
And I am trying the plucking too. Of course, the biggest chunks are always on her bum and she doesn’t like it when I touch her butt I will keep trying though. Bribing her with a chunk of carrot keeps her pretty still.

@CSAchook We used a reciprocating saw blade on our rexes because the brushes were not very effective. They seemed to tolerate it pretty well. I also prefer to pluck vs comb though. It sounds like shes getting into her teenage years

At this point I am convinced her behavior is not a phase, it is a major personality trait She is just a busy bunny. Always looking for things to get into. Lucky for her she is too cute for me to stay mad at.

Yes, they are super curious and like to be busy. I found that with our rexes their butts always had mats.

Originally I thought she was a rex but she doesnt have the nose markings I was told rexs have. Maybe she’s a mix or something as well. Totally new to rabbits so I have no clue.

Im not sure about nose markings for rexes, but they have distinctive fur. They lack guard hairs, so its like petting pure velvet . I love them! This one looks a lot like an English Spot, but very likely mixed with something else.

She's a big old rabbit! Looks kind of rexish. Bit of a mix I think.

Are english spots all supposed to have the butterfly nose pattern? It definitely has the rexy velvet type fur maybe a mix of those two or something.

Thought some of you might get a chuckle out of my recent enrichment “fail”. I was helping my parents rip out a bunch of ancient overgrown rose bushes from their yard. Knowing that rabbits love nibbling on rose bushes, I saved a bunch of fresh clippings. Gave her a whole box of them to forage from. She loved them!.....and left thorny little remnants all. over. the house. Only thing worse than stepping on legos in bare feet, is stepping on rose branches!
