The BYC Book Club

Hi Chicken Girl.:frow I love the Bible, Lord of the Rings, Anne of Green Gables and Little Women too. :)
I also LOVE the Wingfeather series. And the Sword and the Serpent. The Sword and the serpent is a Catholic novel based on St. George and the Early Roman Christians.

Hello and Welcome to the club! Now if we can figure out what books to read please feel free to join us!

Thanks.

Yes I think that's a good idea.

How about these: Emma by Jane Austen or Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Why don't we all take turns every two weeks (does anyone think it should be longer?) suggest a book for reading.

Sounds great!

I've read Emma, so we're going to make the first official read-along Great Expectations :)
I've reserved it, so it'll be shipped over from another branch early next week.

At the top of your first post in the thread you could put: Currently Readings - Great Expectations
Unless you can change the topic title ('cause that would be even better) BYC Book Club Currently Reading Great Expectations

Now I just need to finish this permaculture book

Great Expectations.

Certainly a classic. But what defines a book as a classic? I have pondered
that one question all day. "What defines a book as a classic to me personally?"
Simply because it's on a list somewhere isn't a good enough reason.

And it came to me that the one trait, the one single trait in all the books on
my personal list of classics is that they aren't done saying what they have to
say.

Every time I read one of my personal favorites I walk away with something
new. Something I've missed before, a new way of understanding: that that
book, that story, is not done being told.

Each of you that read Great Expectations will leave the table with a different
understanding of the same book. And none of you wrong.

I'm looking forward to hearing what each of you have to say about the book
from your point of view. Interesting.

Spook

Agree with you Spook! Categories, especially of art are always tricky and subjective

I haven't read Great Expectations so I'm interested to see why it's been so popular over the years
