The CHICKEN MATH Contest- Who has the worst case?

Mine's a bit rubbish, but you incubate six eggs, get two cockerels, so you obviously incubate another 12 eggs. Only get one, decide its lonely, so get it a brother and sister. 4 cockerels 1 hen, so you rehome 3 cockerels, and get 4 hens. Simple maths really

So now you have 9? :)

Hi my name is Bill and I am a chicken addict. It started out as wanting to try it just with 8 but ended up with 14. Had 4 roos in that pile so I got rid of 3 of them then added 6 more pullets. Had 2 hens die due to unforeseen reasons. So added 2 more pullets then my roo dies, replace with another roo and then add 3 POL pullets. So now holding steady at 19 with spring coming and trips to the feed store can't say that I won't fall off the chicken tractor. Remember folks to identify but not compare to others addiction.

Mine is a little complicated. I first convinced my parents to let me get chickens when I was 14 (now 20) I was told 2 max. (what a joke haha)

I started with 2 bantam mix's
month later added 2 barred rocks 1 easter egger
then added 8 more barred rocks

total of 13 until I was 17

then I added 15 NH reds and 15 Barred Rocks

total of 43 until I was 18

I sold 34 and kept 9 until now. I had to down size while I was renting an appartment from my grandparents.

Now that my buisness is up and running and I baught my new house the chicken math is coming back to life.

Just added 5 barred rocks, a goose, and a duck. Total of 16 now.

Before spring I will be adding between 10-15 new hens 5 new ducks 5 turkeys, and thats just the poultry haha

total until February 16

total after Feburary 41 (If I decied not to and any more) haha

I started with 5 feedstore pullets, and I now have a brooder and 2 coops (plus my bathroom lol) filled with 34 of them. I have plenty of room (8 acres) its just hilarious how fast they do add up. I didn't think Chicken Math would happen to me, but there it is! I just started my chicken hobby a few months ago. I have plans for a breeding coop being built now and my boyfriend built me a brooder and 2 coops. He says he likes the projects as much as I like the chickens, so it works!!

My name is Eric and I have a chicken addiction.

Here's my story:
I started with 4 hens. Things were going along fine and I was content with my little flock.

We went in with our neighbors on 4 baby chicks and split them. Now I'm at 6.

I found a listing on Craigslist where a lady was selling 5 hens for $5ea AND throwing in an additional 2 hens. SOLD! Now I'm at 13. Still manageable. At this point my wife tells me "No more, we're done"! Granted this all happened in a matter of 2 months so I can understand her shock at my new addiction.

Fast forward 3 months. I'm driving home from an out of town trip so I called home to see how the kids were doing. My wife asks, "what are you doing tomorrow"? "Working, why"? "Someone from school is giving away 4 hens and looking for a good home. I told her you'd come by to get them". After my laughter subsided, I naturally agreed. I'm a chicken addict, what am I supposed to do?
So I'm at 17. 16 hens and a rooster named Elvis.

Funny side story about Elvis (my avatar as well). He was one of the chicks we bought. We were told he was a frizzle pullet. Turns out, he's a Polish Laced rooster. I guess when you give a baby chick with funny hair a dude's name....

I check the farm & garden section of Craigslist fairly regularly for things I can use around the yard. Maybe add on to the coop or goat barn. I stumbled across an add for 24 chickens AND a coop for $50! Naturally, I nearly jumped out of my seat. I called and the young lady said they were still available but she was waiting to hear from some other people by the end of the day. I'm hopeful since she lives in the same area as me and the other interested parties were from out of town and would take a couple days to get them.

I'm in the process of building a bigger coop now. Looks like I may have to go just a little bigger. Stay tuned...

By the way, I'd put me at 150, the wife thinks I'm off the charts!

I don't even have chickens yet and I'm already a victim of chicken math. I wanted to get 4 hens for eggs so I started researching chicken keeping. Then I read somewhere that you need 2 hens per person to keep the family in eggs. That bumped me up to 16. Then my husband and children got involved and every one of us were looking for different things in chickens. I now have 26 chicks coming April 1st and 12 coming June 3rd. I've already been looking into breeds I want to add later...
