So cool. I hope he's the rooster you deserve. I love his name and he sure is handsome. Im sure the girls will love him.

Unfortunately, I am down an Easter Egger. Melanie escaped the pen while I was cleaning yesterday, and my cat caught her before I could do a thing about it.
My cat was simply being a cat and I don't fault her for it, but oh, it was heartbreaking!
It was blessedly fast. This cat is nothing if not efficient, I don't think Melanie even had a chance to be afraid.
Not usually, but I have two young sizable cats, and both are avid hunters. They leave the big girls alone, but baby chicks left unattended are at risk.I'm sorry to hear that. I've never had a cat mess with my chickens as an adult or when I was younger. In fact I've seen many a barn cat beaten up by a hen, especially one with chicks. Is this something you normally worry about?

Babies getting big! I take them out to the hospital pen during nice days now. View attachment 1779120 View attachment 1779121 View attachment 1779122
Just some random pictures of my babies. Been super busy on the farm, but everyone is doing great! The littlests are spending most of their time outside now, only coming back in the house at night, and are completely off heat.
Happy chicks!

So I have the 5 baby polish and Liz Shaw in the polish coop, and that's been going great. Nardy boy has been a little rough, so he is free ranging until things are a little more settled. The other 6 are staying in the big coop at night, in a dog crate, and spending their days in the hospital pen for now.
