The Chiki Tiki - Work in Progress

Got a little work done today! Linoleum laid down, roosts painted and up. Back wall and doors hung. Painted nest box and outside of coop. We also did get the hardware cloth over the top of the coop and painted the inside one of the days this past week. We're getting there!!











Will have to post pics of the outside paint job tomorrow. Too dark when we finished to take pics today. It still looks like a box to me, but once we get some windows and trim up I think it will look nice. Oh, and a roof would be good.

This looks great so far! What kid of roof are you going for? Also, what are your dimensions for the coop? I'm in the final stages of planning then it's crunch time as the chicks will out grow the brooder in about a month. lol

I'm using a corrugated roof on an angle. Just constructed it today! The coop is 4wX4hX8l. These are the common dimensions of plywood, was going for least amount of waste and cuts. It's worked out really well so far!

Here's the constructed roof not attached and some color. The roof will be attached at a gradual angle above the coop so that there is plenty of ventilation but not a lot of area for rain to get in. There is hardware cloth across the top of the coop itself.






I've got to thank my husband for all the help with all the heavy lifting, construction, and design of the roof. He's my hero!!

Peep peep peep!!! They just arrived a couple hours ago. All 6 are eating and drinking and doing well.

Well, we had our "Spring Chick Party" yesterday. Lots of friends and family, great food, and great times. Everyone got to meet the new members of our family and check out our new digs. Today we got a little work done on the coop.




We got the roof attached and started framing out the coop. It was a little warmer today and I got tired pretty quick, so just the corners, top and bottom of one side done.

Progress has been slow lately. Built a ramp and put in a door.

Chicks are in the coop!! Still need to hang the feeder and waterer and build the run. But at least they're not in the garage anymore!!
