The chirping is going to drive me to violence....

I have a barred rock peep that was going to town last night. I got a straight run, so I was wondering if maybe it was a boy announcing that the girls were sleeping. Or maybe it's just a peep peeping it's little head off.

im so excited to hear about these ideas! i will have some new additions coming next week and its only my second time with chicks so i can't wait to try this :)

Hope it works as well for you too!
Curious, what part of Alaska? My husband and I will go to visit a niece who lives in Anchorage. Our plan is to go late July early August (7 or 8 days). It would be a hoot if we could visit a few chicken folks up there, if you can give recommendations. Just wondering? Please PM me if you like.

I use stuffed animals to but on occasion a toenail will get stuck so be watchful.
Any pasty butt?
Sometimes if they get pasty but they cry a lot.

great idea

I'd say that the pasty butt is the culprit. Clean it's bottom to make sure the vent is clear, which will also cause loud protest btw....then put apple cider vinegar (the unfiltered, unprocessed kind) from the grocery store....I found some made by Heinz. 1/4 tsp per quart of water every time you give your chicks fresh water; then you can also give them yogurt (with live cultures) mixed with their feed. This will take care of the pasty butt, which I believe will also quiet this little one down.
Just like an infant, they let you know if something hurts, either by crying or chirping very loudly. Try it and things will be better probably within 2-3 days!

There was something else wrong. Neither feather duster or stuffed animal worked, and it eventually died yesterday. I kept the pasty butt cleared most of the time. Personally, I think it had brain damage, because it wasn't just the chirping. Walking backward and shaking it's head all the time hinted at something else going on. Unfortunately, we'll never know.

I thought it was all my love making the chick better, comes to think of it maybe it was the chick wanted to be under a wing. If a chick is under the weather, it needs more heat than the rest even if they are all doing fine. I use heat up beanies, or hand warmers. and packe'm around a bit so they think someone cares. I also give all my new babies a sip of yolk (I have goose Yolk) they lived of yolk in the egg it is fine.

Very sorry to read the poor little thing passed away.

I had 2 chicks incubated, one sadly passed away. Since then the other has been doing that loud calling chirp every waking second that it's not being held or sitting on someone. My house mate tried putting a stuffed toy in for it, and I put a little felt hat that sits perfectly like a little warm cave for it but it still threw tantrums whenever in his box by himself.

In another post a lady had a pic up of her lone chick with a little mirror in the box. So I decided to give it a try and got my little guy a mirror today at the supermarket. He's now sitting there making quiet happy sounds talking to himself. Much nicer than the loud fretting call :) (thank you so much to whoever posted that pic!!!!!!)
