*The City of San Diego, California - Chicken and Gamebird / Fowl Law*

I live in the city of San Diego too. If you keep your coop clean and don't keep roos, I don't see why your neighbors would complain. Personally, I think dogs are a much bigger nuisance problem than chickens. A lot of people don't clean up very well after their dogs, so their yards smell horrible. Also I find incessant barking a lot more annoying than roos.

fyi we don't "keep" our chickens—we have no coop—so I think we're probably sliding around the law. I put up a roosting perch and some nest boxes for them in a sheltered spot, high enough so nighttime predators can't climb or jump up to get sleeping hens. Seems to be working fine, save the occasional hawk attack.

Thats true...

But watch out for Raccoons. They are so unpredictable and can strike anytime. They took some of my great fowls and the most recent loss, my litlle dog Romeo...

Ya, I lost our beloved Indian Runner to a raccoon. I'm pretty sure the hens are roosting up high enough that no raccoon under 100 pounds would be able to reach them: it would have to climb straight up a smooth stucco wall about 5 feet. Duck couldn't fly and fell out of her cage one night. My mistake. :-(

Ohhhh

I see. So they roost there, that might be safe, but Raccoons are SOOOO smart you know? I still think a chain link pen is the absolute best. You still risk snakes, cats, or even a pythons having them up there : (

This is great! I live in the San Diego area, and I just ordered 4 chicks, but I have been slightly worried. My backyard is 45 feet away from all neighbors except one, which I really don't think will be a problem, since the couple that lives there are extremely excited and expect fresh eggs!

That is almost 50, so I don't think I really need to worry. I might even make a few additions to my little flock...

Everyone in CA, especially those who resides from the Chula Vista to Oceanside area, should set up a plan, in case the swine flu, aka "H1N1" gets mutated and transfers to chickens and ducks...then its Haywire, CA. Don't put your lives or other peoples live at steak; set up a plan starting now!!!

I suggest we take this matter seriously folks...

PS: I think if this swine flu doesn't stop soon, the restrictions on animals in San Diego would get worse. Keep pens clean as well as all food and water. Get rid of germs before it can even start.

Hey folks, I live in Carlsbad on R-1-Q zoning. Some posted that I can have up to 25 chickens with some restrictions. Do you know what the restrictions are and where to find that info?

thanks,

Dan
