Nice to have you join us from San Diego

In regards to that 50ft. law ordinance, it applies for pigeons, gamebirds and poultry and it just so happens that pheasants and quails fall under gamebirds as well. HOWEVER, even that is the case, if you are able to keep it clean, free of droppings, noise and all that, I don't see what the problem is. Just maintain it under 25, that is all if you raise pheasants. For quails, I would consider them "pigeon" sized so why not more right?

I guess in the end, if your neighbors are cool and well informed with what you have, you should be around with a few this and that. I know a few folks who has over their 25 limit for chickens and 100 for quails and such but they are alright. It all boils doing to how well you can keep things clean and quite for yourself and the neighbors really.

Good luck!

Hello fellow San Diegans,

I also struggle with our city ordinances.

Oh well....., I love to hatch my own birds, but as I cannot have any roosters in my neighborhood, that makes the whole hatching thing so much more difficult. However, I was wondering if anybody would be interested in some 6 1/2 weeks old Black Copper Marans cockerels?
I would love to keep them all as they were all hand raised, but I do not live in East County.......
Please PM me if interested.

Crazy hunn,

Hello! Glad for you to join us : ) Perhaps you made posts before but wow...400+ posts and you are barely here?

LOL. Just kidding with ya. Yea, besides El Cajon and such, its really hard to have too many without running into problems. Try posting up at local feedstores. Most people don't want to buy roosters now-a-days and the only way to get rid of them is giving them away. Lucky I own the exotic types so even if they are not loved here, there are 48 possible states out there thats ready to bring them in ; )

PS: That is why I also wanted to raise only the exotics, in case the events like so

Good luck!

I still am not clear on El Cajon laws.

"El Cajon: Up to 24 chickens are permitted on single-family lots of at least 20,000 square feet in certain residential areas. Chickens must be kept 50 feet from any neighboring residence. "

If your lot is under 20,000 square feet, does that lessen the amt of chickens or mean NO chickens. and whats with "certain" residential areas.

Anyone can clear this up for me??

Hi Crazy Hunn,
Just to let you know that I saw a BCM rooster for sale on San diego craigs list last spring for $50!!!!!
I don't know if it sold, but BCM's are very desirable as roosters.

I would not even charge that much as I have hand raised them all myself. Good home first, price is just secondary. Can anybody help, as I have already posted on CL without success......Maybe it is the time of the year.......

Hey all San Diego chicken keepers!

Is anyone interested in adopting 2 bantam laying hens that are 1 year old now. 1 is an easter egger (green eggs) and one is a bantam salmon favorelle. Both are extremely nice and have been hand raised. I am really sorry to have to part with them, but they need a home where they can peck around and do what chickens do! I unfortunately have to move to an apartment that won't accommodate chickens (no balcony even

),

If you're interested in giving them a new home, please let me know!

here's a picture of the easter egger:

Anyways, just wanted to inform you that this section of the forum is just for posting local chicken laws and ordinances, not really an introduction place or to sell things because our moderators will not approve of that.

Anyhow, feel free to post anything you need to sell in the SALES section but your more than welcome to ask and or share your thoughts in regards to what you know about our "Local Chicken Laws" here : )

I just learned from the man who trims our trees that his friend who lives on Ninth Ave in Escondido was made to get rid of his hens recently. This is only a few blocks from where I live. I still haven't been able to locate any city code that specifically states the chickens are not allowed. I can't help but wonder if people are being cited for laws that don't actually exist. Yesterday I sent an email about this to one of our city council members, Olga Diaz. I haven't heard back yet.

i grew up out there so thought i'd do a quick search for you- have come up with very little, but i did come up with this homesteading group out there, maybe they can help-

http://homesteaders.meetup.com/cities/us/ca/escondido/

also found this article referring to a lady that has chickens in Escondido, maybe she can help too, Cathy Modica

the other thought would be the possibility of house chickens? just a few thoughts for you
