mailly 92020 ? I just cant figure it out.. Sorry to keep taking up space, i just cant get anything clear.... Thanks to anyone who knows...

This is not quite accurate. Once you go into the zoning laws, chickens are prohibited in many more places besides just Imperial Beach and Coronado. For example La Mesa and El Cajon.

Ya know, (and thanks for checking

) i know of a LOT of people in el cajon and espacially La Mesa who have chickens, and even sell eggs openly and say that they are leagal. Now, what gets me is that La Mesa is really picky about a lot of things so i wonder how i can get their same answer..lol And then another who sais it's no problem but you may need to get a permit for them (then its a sure thing you can have them) as well as a goat and other animals like that.. Hum,,, im just trying to give the correct for sure answere to them... Do you have the site where you see this so i can share it??? Thanks for helping..

We got chickens allowed in Montgomery OH, and it sounds much like Coronado -- it's one of the most affluent suburbs of Cincinnati, an extremely conservative midwestern city. I checked them out on wikipedia -- our demographics are nearly identical to theirs. (Barring the home prices, but of course home prices in SoCal are just plain nuts to midwestern eyes.) If we can do it here, I'm betting you can do it ANYWHERE. You just have to know how to approach it.

Kaya!

How are you? It's been a while since you have returned, hope all is well. Apparently, there is still an issue with legalizing chickens in La Mesa and parts of El Cajon too. I thought that was over-ruled months ago when they sent out the list and the only two places were left which were IB and Coronado. IB is legalized now but seems to me like there is La Mesa and El Cajon to work on.

So that leaves us with 3 again. Please enlighten us on what we can do. A few new members who joined mentioned about it and helpful links in which we can look into. Perhaps we can send out another partition?

Thanks Kaya!

I live in the county & zoned for agriculture. Even though I am not personally affected by city laws re chickens, I am concerned. If they keep you guys from having chickens, they will try to re-zone my area one day too. You never know. I think that the only way to take care of this issue is to get organized becuase individuals never get listened to by gov't. What do you all think?

After reading more carefully into National City laws on chickens I also hit the zoning part and it says that chickens are only allowed on a 20,000 sf land parcell. I called the city and was told that chickens "can" be held under a "pet" provision baring no neighbor complaint or noise and health code violation. She said that they keep loop holes in the city ordinances just in case...like cock fighting or dog fighting.

When it comes down to it, if someone complains they can site health, noise and zoning laws if need be as reasons to make someone get rid of their chickens, but they don't normally like to waist their time because in an all out legal fight they would lose because chickens can and are considered pets. When Walmart is selling chicken scratch, its hard to make a case that chickens cant be pets.

The best I can say is REALLY read your city ordinances. Including health, noise and zoning laws. They can contradict eachother which can give anyone a leg to stand on if they are made to give up their chickens.
