Hey Pippin, happy to give you some of my eggs if you want for the school hatch?

You aren't that far from me.

Let me know.
This is a really kind offer, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Now is a bit too late because I'll be going on hoilday for the summer soon. But, the teacher might want to try again with her new class next year, so I'll keep you in mind for sure (and I will pay you!). Thank you!

Hey, no problem. And no payment needed! I get plenty of eggs in the spring and summer. Way more than I can eat.

I'm sorry you had such bad luck with the eggs you set. I've had oddly good progress so far with those I had shipped from ebay a few weeks ago. To my great surprise.

I had 12 delivered and the box sat on its side for 12 hours after delivery thanks to my son 🙄. One was cracked, so 11 went under my hen. I waited 3 days while they sat resting. I took 3 out yesterday of which 2 were infertile and 1 a quitter. So 8 eggs are doing well so far out of 12. Nice fixed air sacs and movement inside. Who knows how many will actually hatch, and how many will be boys, lol, but I live in hope!

Moral of the story is, sometimes shipped eggs turn out ok, but always over order anyway.

I probably would have been better off ordering from ebay. I usually do and get a 50% hatch rate but I wanted to get local eggs to get a higher hatch rate

You just can't predict can you. It sounds like there were fertility problems so maybe not even the travel was much of an issue?

I've ordered from ebay before and got 6 eggs from one seller and none were fertile! I messaged the seller who said, "oh yeah, the hens have been mucking about lately. I'll send more when they settle down" whatever that means. I never got replacements. I really wanted that breed too!

It's pure luck how it goes.

If the fertile egg does hatch, I might need to convince my parents to get more chicks. I was going to have chicks anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard if I pay for them. I still want to give chicks to my broody.

If nothing happens (likely) I will ask for chicks after the summer holidays or if the teacher decides to try again I will get them.
