Child aid organizations vary a lot. Some of them are really quite good and a high percentage of what you give goes to the kid and his village or neighborhood, and others...n...not so much.

Some of them, you really sponsor one single kid, but for most of them the aid is more general and benefits more kids or people in an area. The key for me with them, is how much of what you give hits the road, and how much of it goes to walnut desks and golden parachutes.

I know, there are plenty of child aid organizations out there. I'm referring to the disturbing lack of organizations that take on heavy-duty projects, like water pipelines and such, groups that are privately run and thus relatively immune to the corruption inherent in government aid. There certainly are groups that do that - a recent issue of National Geographic mentioned some - but overall, they are not advertised well at all, while animal cruelty commercials get prime time spots.

Cruelty ..comes in many forms. Have seen those on here even..think it better to live trap and relocate predator...not so..most of these animal numbers are out of control, and these will starve. Myself I think this is cruel....more so than killing them.

Heres little hint though.. You dont have to go through any organizations to help them out...
Go to your local VA hospital (where the sick vets live that have no money..) ..go to homeless shelters..where there are tons of vets..
Go to your local veterans club and ask them if they have any members that need anything.... its not rocket science... if you make an effort.

Go to the childrens shelters... give them clothes and toys and gifts and your TIME at christmas time...(because their families are pieces of crap and dont care about the kids...it means A LOT to a child to just have SOMEONE that cares and wants to spend time with them.)
I work in foster care for high risk kids... there is ALWAYS a way to help these kids HERE in America out.. always... ..
contact your local CPS to find out how you can help... again,its not rocket science.
If you cant figure out how to help AMERICANS in need..then wow...
Our country truly is in a scary place today....

^I'll add, if you don't have the time to volunteer you can still donate... money is always useful, but MANY shelters, charities, etc. also accept food, clothing, household, old appliances, furniture, etc.

Don't want to bother having a yard sale to get rid of all those clothes your kids outgrew? Bought a new washer, still have the old one in your garage? New furniture but your old stuff still has life in it? Found TP or Peanut Butter on sale for 50 cents? Drop it at a local charity... or call them up, MANY will come to you, load it up... everything!

If you aren't sure who to call... ask your church... or your child's PTA... your local reps/mayor... lots of ways to help... whether you're strapped financially and can only donate time... or you've got spare funds/goods but don't have time... ANY help is appreciated.

This also goes for animal shelters too. They're always looking for able hands and feed for the critters that get abandoned. And many even look for foster homes too... petfinder.com is great for finding shelters/rescues in your area.
