My grand daughters fell in love with my birds... So I wanted to give them a coop and 4-5 birds for their back yard... Their county requires a $450 permit to house birds. It's crazy. Their back yard bumps up against a county owned forest.

To me that seems like a bit of a moneymaker. If the chickens are housed correctly and well tended how can it be a problem? Cats can be a real nuisance and you can have as many of them as you want and they roam everywhere. Makes no sense.

It's ridiculous! Especially when you consider that two blocks over is another county and you can have up to 20 birds without any issues.

It's like my pool permit that was based upon the "cost" of the pool. It's really just a tax.

Perhaps a kickstarter to raise the funds? I am sure there enough of us here to raise the funds provided we get updates on coop building etc.

I don't know about competitive but I do seem to 'zone out'! I'll be happy when I reach at least 1000!
