The coyotes here aren't afraid of people! *Big rant and questions*

We taken a few out of the Summit Lake area, some near Steamboat Island, Hwy 108, and the Kennedy Creek area. Probably 10 or so each year. Mostly we head to Elma , Satsop, Porter and Brady. We're on 108. The stretch between Porter & Brady is our best producer.

This one was one of the best pelts I've seen. Yes, my wife given the choose of several much better rifles at arms length grabbed an 70 year old .22 and drops the big female at a solid 65 to 75 yards with one shot. I'm proud and scared!!!

coyotes in the city!!
i live inside the loop of cincinnati and there are coyotes, coons, opossum, skunk, and squrriels the size of pit bulls. i shoots em all with the ol' .45 if its handy or the trusty rusty .22. don't trap em give them a fare chance and build a nice tight coop also to anybody out there listening and cant stomach shooting a cute little garbage picker, trap em and call a local furrier they will take the varmit and turn it into a davey crockett hat your kids could get you to buy it in gatlinburg or dollywood or somthing.

We are getting overrun with them too; use to have hunters set up base every week-end and run dogs through our area, but they don't do that anymore, so the population has really escalated. We hear the pups from two directions, and while we don't actually "see" any, we know they are out there. I know the pyrs with the Alpacas will keep them at bay, plus we have the small welded wire around that enclosure. Cost a lot, but we are so glad we did it. We have an over population of deer too, they are running wild and crazy all the time, interstate is literally plastered with them from the truckers hitting them, and you would think the coyotes would go after them, because there is a herd of 6-7 that run right East of our house all the time. Come to think of it, I haven't seen those deer for awhile . . ..hmmmmmmmm

The wolf urine is a great idea; I am assuming you can order it, as how would you get it otherwise? Reminds me of the movie Jurassic Park where the kid has T-rex pee to use as a safety net around his hideout. Sam Neil asks him how he got it, and he said, you don't want to know!!!! Sort of the same thing with a wolf!! My brother actually has two female wolves . . .but I would guess the male is what works best?

My pen is constructed of 2x4 welded wire. The bottom portion of it has chicken wire around it, but only because young chickens were escaping. The run is coyote resistant, but not much of a deterrent to coons.

As for wolf urine I think it would be more of an attractor than a repellant. Foxes have a mortal fear of coyotes, but I've caught plenty of them trapping using coyote urine as an attractor.

Just when I think the Internet can't come up with anything else to surprise me, hey, there actually ARE places to order wolf urine! And other types, too:

http://www.murrayslures.com/urine.html

and

http://www.flemingoutdoors.com/wolf-urine.html

"Pete Rickard Wolf Urine 8 oz. Wolf Urine is a great way to get a wolf in for trapping purposes. Also makes prey like moose, elk, deer, coyote, bear, and even camels think vicious wolves are nearby. (And it's on sale NOW!)

And, no, I don't want to know how they got it...

Keep those camels out!!! LOL!

We have a coyote problem here - one time to the point DH had a pack of pups circling him as he came in from bowhunting - some running by not even 5 feet from him. Mom was running along the hill above him, apparently giving encouragement.

Any yote in sight gets the lead treatment. If they are willing to try and "play" with a 6'5" man, I'm not giving them the chance to take on my two year old.
