Ash jumped, oh, just a plan I had before. it wouldn't work now, of course. but thoughts of his old plan slipped into his mind. I could go into the city and sort of mingle with the humans, go to one of those schools they have maybe, learn how they think, why they kill us, things like that. Climb higher in their rankings, convince them that cursed ones aren't that bad... but I can't leave you, or the others.
 
That's a really cool idea! Ash...it's alright. You can leave me here...it's one person who dies or the whole group. It's like...the stars. Think. There are a million out there that are being killed. If one's light stops shining, but the other stars are able to keep casting their light, then it's for the greater good.

Ash closed his eyes, I don't know... maybe I can leave you with Clover, she can move you around, and if Squilf comes back...

But don't you see? Ash, I'm a burden. I'm only putting a weight on the other's shoulders...literally. It's harder for them to save their own life if they're trying to save my own too, Ash. I-I can't be a burden anymore. So many people risk their lives to save me, Ash! I don't want to see anyone get hurt or killed on my part.

you aren't a burden. Ash said a little forcefully. Think about it. if everyone abandoned the ones unable to fend for themselves, in favour of their own lives or wants... that would be bad. most likely worse than what's happening now.
