The dark shape of Tobias, a Spartan, was barely visible through the thick canopy of leave. He stared curiously at the strange tree before launching himself onto one of its topmost branches, his long claws clinging to the wet, rotting bark. He stalked along the branch, heading closer to the trunk of the tree when he stopped dead and flattened himself against the bark, hearing a faint hiss from somewhere nearby.

The snake observed him nonchalantly. What was this creature? He hadn't seen the likes of this one before.

(BTW, what's a Spartan?)

Spartans are a half human hybrid creature who were accidently created by a scientist in an experiment several years ago in England, most of them speak with an British accent because of this. They are a relatively new species and only a few small groups of them exist in the world. Spartans are smaller then the average human, the tallest being about four feet tall. The joints in their feet are similar to those in their hands with longer then normal toes, each ending in a wickedly sharp claw in the place of a toenail. This allows them to use their feet in the same way they would their hands, holding things and climbing in the trees. Unlike humans, their neck is double jointed, making it possible for them to run on all fours while holding their head in a position similar to the way a dog or cat would. Muscular hindlegs allow them to jump into trees in a split second and leap from branch to branch in pursuit of an enemy or prey. Their skin is dark blue, almost black and their teeth are sharp and point, much unlike a humans, and designed to rip and tear flesh. Since they live in a harsh climate, their skin is tough and not easily damaged by daggers and arrows. They are also unnaturally quick healers and are never down for long. Their territory consists mostly of dense rainforests, waterfalls and thick, heavy fog. It rains often, leaving everything wet, sodden and covered in a thick layer of slippery moss. This is where the Spartan's sharp claws come in handy. They hunt in packs, much like wolves and work very well as a team. In some situations they will use bows and arrows as weapons, but the prefered method of attack is with their own claws and teeth.

Deciding it was the wind he had heard, Tobias continued through the tree, leaving claw marks in the soft bark as he walked on all fours.

The snake twisted after him, curling around the branches. What a strange creature! he thought. As leader of a tribe he should really be more observational. He stared at the places where chunks of tree had been gouged out by claws and shook his head disgustedly. This tree was sacred and if too deeply disturbed it might attract a witch. He shuddered and slid after the bizarre thing.

Tobias halted and closed his eyes, feeling the slight vibrations on the branch as the snake moved. He whipped around, quick as lightning and spotted the cause of the vibrations. The snake. His lips drew back, revealing his razor sharp teeth which were now bared in a fierce snarl.

The snake's eyes glinted with something unidentifiable. Hatred? Sadness? Joy even? Who could tell! His solid black forked tongue hissed softly. What a strangely wolfish creature this was! It seemed remotely canine but it looked to be some sort of human. Unlike anything he had heard of before. He mused softly to himself, rubbing the his tongue against the roof of his mouth, creating a low murmuring hiss.

Tobias held his ground, facing the large snake boldly "Who are you" He growled through clenched teeth.
