The day I go out ..........

I think it usually happens when you realize one day that it is better to take your morning coffee outside so you can watch the animals rather than watching the local news...then you catch yourself talking to people about your birds in the same way people talk constantly about their kids...then you find out that a silkie will go broody over a mere golf ball so the options on what you could hatch are virtually endless.
Just be careful or one day you'll find yourself looking at pics of quail eggs in the middle of the night with credit card in hand. (Thank goodness I had to turn on the light and DH asked me what I was doing.)

Leah- Thats funny. But so true! I just wish I had a silkie.lol. I can't wait for mine to go broody this spring. If they will. I want them to hatch eggs. I wanna see the babies running around. They keep me bussy. Now I don't have to have anymore babies. My girls do it for me..lol.

Congrats on the chickens, eggs & goat! Our kids are up and out and a long way off so, like you, those fuzzy butts keep me busy and happy! This is my fourth year with chooks and I can't imagine not having them. We had our first broody hatch this year & boy was it an adventure.

We have one Barnevelder brooding on a fake egg right now so I'm confident we will have at least one broody this spring. . . . & more chicks!!!

Just curious, I work in Public Health. Did you mean Coccidioidomicosis "Valley Fever" and is Valley Fever a problem in Georgia? My understanding is that Valley Fever is primarily in California, Arizona and New Mexico.

There have been a few times when I have gotten an egg from everyone of my girls. A lot depends on the breeds. Some tend to be better layers and will lay most every day but will take a day off once in awhile.
