Now we got some people! C'mon, who wants more?

“I coulda swore I saw a deer over here!” a man whispered. I peeked out of my bush and saw that both of them carried guns. I crouched low to the ground. Suddenly, a wasp landed on my rump. I tried to bite it or shoo it off, but it took out its needle and stuck it right in my rear. “YIPPP YIPE YIIIIP!!!” I howled as I jumped out of the bush in pain…. The men raised their guns, thinking I was a deer or a mad coyote that was going to attack and just as they both pulled the triggers on their guns, the wolf ran out in front of me. I heard a breath escape her mouth as the bullets hit her, but nothing more. She collapsed to the ground and I knew she was gone. I licked her cheek, then took off towards the road. I looked back and saw the men picking her up and heading back towards their truck, laughing and chuckling like nothing happened. Suddenly, I turned my head around and realized I had reached the road, and I went too far! I was in the middle of the road, and a car whooshed by me, beeping. I jumped and ran frantically across, jumped a brick wall and high tailed it through the woods. Suddenly, a predator jumped out of the bush next to me as I ran by and tackled me, teeth bared and a menacing growl escaped my mouth as I fought back, but a familiar face made me stop my attack.

“Fido!” I barked! We ran around in circles, nudging and licking eachother. “What happened when all the cats came and rescued us? Where did you and Goldie go?” I asked. “We had to leave you because the coyotes chased us away, even with the cats with us. I’m sorry, but when we got back to where we left you, there was nothing there. We thought they took you.” He said sadly. I wagged my tail in understanding, and suddenly I asked, “Where is Goldie?” Fido’s ears and tail dropped. “Fido? Fido! Tell me where he is!” I whimpered, sensing panic coming to my body! “I awoke one morning, and he was gone. I let you down, I’m sorry.” He said, his body quivering in shame. I sat down in shock, staring blankly at the snow covered trees. “I searched and searched, but no scent was there. I’m afraid… I’m afraid the coyotes took him.” He told me honestly. Just as he said that, a howl came from the distance. He nudged me to hurry and started to trot away, looking over his shoulder at me…. and slowly, I walked after him. As we walked, I thought, “Goldie was the first friend I had met. I… I don’t know what I’ll do without him.”
Ahead, I heard a nervous “COCK A DOODLE DOOOO!!!!!” “Goldie!” I howled, and I started to run. I came to a clearing with Fido at my tail. Goldie was being chased across the field by a hawk! Suddenly, the hawk grabbed Goldie’s wing! He squawked as he was swiftly lifted off the ground.

“NOO!!” I yapped! I jumped through the air and grabbed the hawk’s tail feathers. It let out a LOUD screech that hurt my ears and release Goldie. We tumbled through the grass and fell into a creek. Barking happily I said, “That was fun!” Clucking nervously Goldie said, “That was SCARY!” “Well, I guess it was at first, but that tumble was fun!” I woofed. Fido came bounding over, and in a joyous reunion, we pranced around and played “Bark (or cluck) like there’s no tomorrow”! Suddenly, across the field, I heard a faint barking. My ears perked, my eyes scanning the field. Suddenly, Cody and Nellie came barging out of the woods! Fido, not knowing that I was friends with them, went running towards them, teeth bared, hair bristled. “Fido! NO!” I barked frantically! “FIDO! STOP!!!!” He couldn’t hear me! Goldie squawked, and we both ran after Fido. He tackled Nellie and bit her neck… a yelp of pain escaped her mouth. “NELLIE!!! FIDO NO!!” Cody attacked Fido from the behind, barking “DON”T HURT HER!!!” “Guys! STOP!!!” I barked, running around them in circles, not daring to get into their scuffle, for I might loose a paw if I did. “COCK A DOODLE DOOO!!” Goldie squawked, which silenced everyone. Cody had Fido by the leg and Fido had Cody by the neck. “Don’t fight anymore!” I growled at them. Both let eachother go and ducked away from eachother. Cody ran to Nellie, whimpering “Nellie? Nellie!” Her chest was not moving, no air came from her nose and her eyes were closed. Cody collapsed to the ground, whimpering and crying, his head resting on her chest. Anger in my eyes, I turned on Fido.

“YOU killed my sister! I told YOU to stop!” I growled at him, approaching him with my hair bristled, my teeth bared. Fido crouched down submissively and whimpered nervously “I didn’t know, Buddy! I’m sorry. I was just trying to protect you and Goldie! I didn’t know they were your friends.” Suddenly I pounced on him, biting his neck! Fido didn’t want to fight back, for I was his friend, but he had to protect himself. Of course, he easily pushed me off his neck and tackled me, for I was 20 pounds lighter than him. He looked into my eyes with such sorrow and regret that slowly… I lied under his paws motionless, no longer trying to attack him. He let me up and I jumped away, afraid I would hurt him again. We both said “I’m sorry.”, and gave eachother a nudge with our noses, then went to look at Nellie. Indeed, she had passed away. Cody still lay next to her, his eyes full of misery. “You must of gotten really close, to be so sad about her passing.” I whimpered. He nodded his head, then slowly got up and gave a half-heartedly shake of his ears. Cody looked at me and said “I’m sorry we ran away from you during the storm, but it was our instincts to run away from danger… and by the time I looked behind and you weren’t there, the tornado had already engulfed you. We….we thought you were dead.” I nodded my head in understanding, then nuzzled him gently. Goldie sat over on a rock, watching all this take place, when suddenly he clucked, “Whats for dinner? I’m starving!” We all howled in laughter, than ran off to go find some food. We had only made it halfway across the field when suddenly I remembered my master. “Where’s my master?” I demanded to Goldie and Fido. “We don’t know. Some people saw us pulling him towards town after we left you, and they took him away from us. We couldn’t stop them!” Fido told me honestly. My ears drooped, and I felt like my journey to get back to my master would never end. My ears perked back up when I heard a soft whimpering coming from ahead.
