Suddenly, sunlight appeared! There was Tucker and Delilah, Gracies pups, digging me out! I licked them both and burst out of the snow, hopping over their heads and landing perfect on the ice without slipping or falling or making a fool of myself! I saw that Gracie and Buddy were fighting off the bear once more, the big massive beast swatting at their faces with his big paw with claws that could easily kill a dog with one swipe. I pushed the 2 pups in the hole that I just sprang out of, then barked at the bear, HEY! OVER HERE YOU BIG PUSHOVER! The bear swung around and charged towards me, frothing at the mouth and roaring. I braced myself and just as he was a few feet away I sprang and landed right on his back and started gnawing on his neck again. He let out a cry of pain as I ripped open his neck. I jumped off, satisfied that he had enough. The bear did indeed run off growling and roaring. Gracie and Buddy surrounded me with love and nuzzles, and the pups ran over, tumbling over their own feet, but I loved them just the same. Buddy! Youre alive! How..? I asked, confused. After you left me, a greyhound found me and brought me to the vets where they fixed me up, then I decided to keep looking for you guys! You did it Fido! You saved Gracie and .. Suddenly Buddy stopped and looked around for his friend Goldie. Um Buddy I began. I told him what happened. The look in the old dogs eyes made my heart heave. I knew well that Goldie was the first friend he ever made on this journey this journey of sacrifice, death, friendship, faithfulness, love and hope. I knew he must be in so much pain not physically, but his heart must be breaking in half right now. And youre sure hes gone? Buddy asked hopefully. I nodded my head sadly. Buddy sighed and I saw tears trickle down his nose. He died peacefully, cuddled next to your pups, Buddy. He wouldnt of had it any other way, Im sure. I said, trying to comfort him. NO! I never I never got to say Goodbye! Or I never got to say I love him! And thatd Id always think about him and and he barked, half angry, half sad. I nuzzled him affectionately and licked his nose.
Where are we going, Fido? Buddy asked me. I looked at him and realized why he wasnt making the decision. He wanted me to be a leader. Sighing, I said, I think we should head towards a town and find a new master to care for us. I saw Buddy grimace when I said master and I quickly changed the subject by saying, We should get going. So me, Buddy, Gracie and the puppies went wandering through the forest. We got to a train track and I heard a train coming. Cmon guys! Hurry! Suddenly I had a idea! Guys! Lets jump on the train! It will lead to a town! But before they could say anything the train rounded the corner and I jumped into a cart. Gracie and Buddy each grabbed a puppy and tried to run to catch up. Gracie jumped and she made it! Cmon Buddy!!! I howled. Gracie suddenly jumped off, ran up to Buddy, picked up the puppy in his mouth and jumped easily back up on the train. Buddy jumped .. and he made it! Buddy scowled at me and said angrily, Dont ever do that again! You wait until your pack knows the plan and you get their approval! Dont just run off and do what you want! I cowered, feeling like I was being whipped. Im sorry I just.. I began, but Buddy walked away and angrily lied down in the corner. Gracie gave me a disappointed look, then herded her pups in the corner with Buddy. I started to walk over to lie down with them, when Buddy raised his head and growled. I backed up, and feeling rejected, I lied by myself in the opposite corner, and sighed.
I was awoken by human voices very close to the train. The other dogs were already awake, hiding under a tarp that hung over a snow mobile. I looked at Buddy questionably, wondering if he has accepted me back. He ignored me still, so little by little I inched my way over to him and lied down next to Gracie. The door to the train cart opened, and a man flashed a flashlight across the room, then closed the door again. I heaved a sigh of relief and looked over at Buddy. Im sorry I was a little harsh on you last night . He said slowly. I nodded my head and nuzzled into Gracies neck. I walked out in the open when suddenly the door opened again! A man shouted A dog! and threw a net over me! Buddy jumped out and growled at the man, but the man through a net over him too! Gracie stayed hidden in the corner, when a puppy let out a woof at the man. Look, Puppies and another dog!? the man shouted and soon more people crowded the door. Should we bring em to a animal shelter? one suggested. Naw, man, just shoot em. Got enough dogs in this world as it is. Another said grouchily and a couple men murmured Yeah or nodded their heads. So a man took out a gun and loaded it. Suddenly, a noise came from a crate over in the corner of the train car . And suddenly the door of the crate burst open and out came .
