"Leave my dogs alone, NOW!" A man yelled as he shot into the air. Everyone looked in the direction of the voice and when I did, a warm feeling came over me. Standing there with a gun, was my master. He looked at me and Fido with joy, but anger at the men in the tree. "What do you think you're doing! Shooting dogs?!!" Master yelled again. "They wouldn't let us down from the tree!" The rabbit hunters yelled. "What, you two afraid of 2 little doggies?" My master said with a smirk. One raised his gun to shoot master, when suddenly a screech came from the top of the tree. Rio and Carrot flew down from the top of the tree and each landed on a hunter's head. "AAAH!!!! A SNAKE!" One yelled. Hope and Gracie leaped out from behind some bushes and ran to master, yapping happily. I was surrounded with licks and nuzzles. My mother was the most happy of all, to be able to see her son again. The men fell from the tree, and just before they hit the ground, the 2 roosters flew from their head and landed gracefully next to master, clucking excitedly. The men leaped up and ran away screaming in terror. Everyone greeted master with licks and wags of tails.... but all rejoicing stopped when we heard a soft whimper.
Fido sat next to Buddy's body, whimpering softly. One of Fido's paws rested on Buddys shoulder, and Fido let his head go back and let out a long, sad howl of sorrow and misery. "Buddy. We have gone through so much together. What a wonderful friend you were, always at my side, offering guidance like a father, but was a friend who played and teased me as well. I considered you my brother. I wished I could of been with you to... to say goodbye. May all animals that you've helped and friended, remember you as you were as a young dog. A saviour, a teacher, a leader..... but most of all, a friend."
