The Duck Thread

Saturday I brought home two ducklings from TSC. They had arrived Monday, so I figured since they had lived a week they were likely to continue living. :p Right now they are in our kitchen. We plan on getting a couple more once we get their pen built-if it ever stops raining long enough for us to build! With my luck both ducklings are male and we really want eggs. We already have three roosters and no hens -sigh.
I hope you don't have 2 drakes although with out females they would do fine together but may still try and mate with your rooster. So getting them females if that was to turn out that way would be a good idea. at least 3-4 females to 1 drake this keeps any one duck from being over mated and possibly injured.

My husband has this idea to build a tractor and a permanent dwelling. My idea was to build a shelter and just have a move able nesting box. We do have an issue with predators-snakes, raccoon, possums, foxes, random dogs and cats.
They def need a secure over night dwelling alot of preds will dig and climb and be sure to use 1/2 inch hardware cloth to keep raccoons and other preds from ripping through they can rip right through chicken wire.. and they will reach through and grab and try to pull your ducks/chickens through any fencing if they can.

Congrats on your new duckling pics when you can

Yours eats the big chunks of food. Mine our adults and will not eat anything unless I cut it in little bitty chunchs .if it's just an inch bigger it gets dumped and they will not eat it. Did you cook the celery or is it raw. It's been a struggle to cook everything squash green beans peas. In a pan or in oven.do you guys use a knife or do you you's a food processor or blender. What is the easiest way.that takes less time. I want to give them nutrition. But don't want to be up tell midnight every night .

At the moment. I cutting it all by hand with a knife. It takes forever. I partner says it takes me to long. We our trying to figure a different way.

Try a food processor. Have you tried mixing all their stuff up in warm water and adding pellets? The pellets will turn to mush. They might eat it if it's all mixed together, like stew.

I will have to get a food processor. I have a small machine that might work from the baby bullet from when my son was little that might work all try it.if not a will get one soon.
