We went and got another heat light fixture. We just need to get another bulb. I think partners going to try and get the light a little closer to dog house enough to shine in dog house but not able to get knocked down. I told him not in dog house because hope can't see. And she may knock into it.

This is my 11 week old fawn runner x Saxony drake. Every afternoon he has this pouch, similar feeling to a crop, that sways from his chest. Does anyone know what it is? Or if it's not right?

Hi i got this duckling as a Mother's Day present from my husband. My sister in law is a kindergarten teacher and hatched 11 ducklings in her class. She was told they were anconas. Looking at pics off line I have my doubts that's what this duckling is. I know it's not a mallard though as someone else thought maybe that's what it could be. It is only a week old. Can anyone help me ?

Awwwwww so cute!!! Looks like you've got a Rouen, very sweet birds. They look just like mallards. I Have 2 and they are some of the sweetest birds in my flock. Isn't a duck the perfect Mother's Day present?
Here is one of my male rouens

Thank you so much. Totally is what I have! It is a perfect Mother's Day gift. Now to figure out if I have a male or female. I guess I will find out a bit later if it quacks or peeps! Haha. Very cute ducks indeed. Super excited now!

You should be able to tell the gender when he/she is about 4 weeks old. I have 4 ducklings right now and they are all female (bought them sexed) but I can tell it's true because of their voice.
For some reason, I'm thinking yours is a boy.... He just looks like a he!

Oh no. Bought 4 Rouen to increase the flock. They are 9 weeks and I have a sinking suspicion from the lack of chatter that all 4 are male.

Actually males chatter all the time so it may be a good thing. My boys just talk all day while my girls don't say anything unless it's "QUACK QUACK QUACK"

The first ducks I ever got were all quiet most of the time except for duckling peeps. The about 9-10 weeks of age they ALL began quacking so I thought I had all females. About a week later one of them would quack but it was more of a raspy sort of sound. To show what I knew back then I thought I had a sick duck because it sounded like laryngitis. Turns out he was the drake and all the quackers were females.

Nothing to worry about. Ducks don't have a crop in the same way chickens do. The have what is called a "fustorm dilation" in their esophagus. It stores food briefly to allow it to soften for digestion. It also allows waterfowl to consume more food than they need immediately for later consumption.
