Alright, you need to buy duck starter food,!a soon as you can, I'm sure if it was in a shelter, all by itself that it wasn't to young.

What color is the duckling?

If you are not able to find a good waterfowl feed for ducklings you can use chick starter feed (non medicated). But, you will need to add niacin (1 teaspoon per cup of feed). Be sure you get niacin like Brewer's Yeast. Not the yeast you bake with or make alcoholic beverages with but nutritional brewers yeast. Feed the little one this for at least the first 10 weeks. They MUST always have water available to drink but be careful not to have anything they can actually get in. Until they are larger they can drown and won't have the ability to waterproof themselves until they are more mature. If at all possible get a second duck about the same age and size. Ducks need the companionship of other ducks from birth. It was great that you rescued the duckling. I wish you the very best of luck.

Hi i got this duckling as a Mother's Day present from my husband. My sister in law is a kindergarten teacher and hatched 11 ducklings in her class. She was told they were anconas. Looking at pics off line I have my doubts that's what this duckling is. I know it's not a mallard though as someone else thought maybe that's what it could be. It is only a week old. Can anyone help me ?
