The Duck Thread

Sorry all when I first posted the last comment showing looked like it said 2013 lol. I thought it was strange it died so long ago but had so many comments lol. I think my brain is a bit fogged up from lack of sleep lol.. :p
So my question was I have 8, 3 week old ducklings still in the brooder and 3, 13 week old ducks in a pen outside. I want them to be together but I'm unsure of how to introduce them when I'm done brooding my babies. Any suggestions or tips. This will be my first time integrating ducks although I've done it alot with chickens.. thanks. :)
That's easy to do. No worries at all. Welcome to the Duck Side....MwaaaaahahHHHAaaa!!!

Aw, Hi Cutie:)

PS; how's my Io gurl?

She has an issue with her eyes right now... our nasty neighbors are getting evicted and they dumped a bunch of pesticides across their yard and think they got some through our fence... both her eyes are swollen, weepy and irritated... am flushing them often and giving her Cipro eye drops... :fl

My husband built this divider for me. I used it when I introduced my ducklings to the adults. I had them in the enclosure (see picture below). I could put this divider down the center of the 10x10 enclosure and cut it in half. The babies stayed on one side, the adults on the other. That way they could see each other but not touch. I did this for about 2 weeks, then let them together supervised for a few hours at night. After about a week of doing this, I let them free range together. They stay all together. The only aggression I have had is from the babies to the adults, but that only lasted a little while, they now stay together as one flock!

My enclosure:

I can even use the divider for a sick bird, as you will notice it has hinges in the center. I can use it straight to cut the enclosure in half of at a right degree angle to just cut off a small corner of the enclosure for a sick bird, that way they can still see the sick one and I don't have to go through introducing them again.

It has worked for me.

Good luck,
Mandy

P.S. We aren't dead on this thread! (Ha Ha, I made a funny!!) We have a great amount of fun!!!
