The Duck Thread

They're making you wait!!!

Do you have anything like a dog pen or temporary pen that you can use to section her off from everyone else without constricting her too much and stressing her out?

You've got brooders everywhere and all I've got are fake broodies that sit for four hours then wander off like "what eggs?"
Lol I probably should have taken eggs away from some of them but with it being my first time I just want them all! Hubby said he'd build me a cage to fit around where she is so we don't have to move her I guess. I've been picking up dog crates at every flea market I go to and have different birds locked up all over the place with eggs. It'll be nice when its all over. My chores list is getting pretty long!

Yeah. My count maybe off but she stopped coming out of culvert about 40 days ago. I don't know if they stay on nest while still laying eggs so not sure if maybe she hasn't actually been sitting on them for less time but I know the Monday after Easter she was only out once a day from then on.

Once they finish laying they start to sit full time for hatching. So I would say it's been 38 days. If it were me I'd say check/wait til Monday. These numbered days are guidelines or "the norm" things can take a bit slower or faster depending on circumstances. Just like people they can be a bit early or late. Have you checked at all to see if they were fertile or developing?

So they should be hatching by now. Not sure what went wrong. I'll leave her be and keep hoping for my last girl to actually hatch some. With all I've heard about broody Muscovy I don't understand how two out of three ended up with none. My last one is do this weekend.

I wouldn't give up hope on her just yet. Have you been checking her or just waiting and letting her come out on her own when finished?

I sent my daughter into culvert (took her out for ice cream after) Tue and Wed. Thats the first time we checked on her. The eggs look right i think. Air sacs are about half egg. Nothing stinks and they look normal. But still no internal pips and the few out of the 17 she checked she couldn't hear anything but goats were jumping around on culvert above her head and I'm not exactly sure how much noise they should be making.

I was watching from other side of culvert while she candled them for me to see. Is there anything specific we should look for to know if they are alive do you know?
