I need help! My pekin duck got left out of his coop last night :( when I found him(I think) he was in his pool nor moving, when I got closer he could walk but acts "drunk" my other pekin is ok but she ( again I think) is fine. He is eating. I don't want to loose my baby:(

How old are they and depending on how old maybe he is hypothermic, he will need to be kept where it's warm so his body temp gets normal again.Give him plenty of fresh room temp water with some electrolytes in it if you have them..If not just a tad of sugar mixed for a while just to give him some energy.

How sis he get left out?

I'm not sure how old they are, I got them both May 3rd, and they were small but bigger then my baby chicks that I got the week before them. I have duck feathers all over my yard. It was dark when I locked up them up and I heard them both and they are always right next to each other so I assumed he was in there too. their pool is right next to their coop so he must have been in there :(

what would be a good source of electrolytes for him?
Did you check him over for any injuries gosh amazing a predator didn't get him.

You can buy electrolytes and vitamins in powder form that goes into water. Or here is a recipe another member posted for homemade elec.

1 cup of water 2 teas of sugar 1/8tea of salt 1/8 tea or baking soda use full strength on ailing birds or mix 1 cup into 1 gallon of water.

Duck feathers all over your yard like something may have gotten hold of him?

And please lock them up before dark preds are on the move at dusk.

No, but I'm glad BYC steped in quick to remove!! they must be playing or upset with BYC? No one that loves pet's or helping others would do that.. , but whoever did it wanted to make us both look bad & for what ever reason, I have no idea?? God only knows these thing's...
I apologize for ever blaming that on you. You are very correct! :) whoever did do this wanted to just mess around with people on this site. Sorry for troubles! :) on the other hand I have 2 welsh harlequin and two Cayuga ducks arriving tomorrow! :)

Never thought you blamed.. Things happen and it's a easy fix... Thanks though..
Agh, we really want welsh harlequin's, but we got Muscovy's..glad they are quite, but the fly and climb, so we will have to see about that. One neighbor has a Peking for 8 plus year's..hope these Muscovy's are chocolate.. We're gona have them for a while..

We have cleaned it twice now, and yes the poop smells bad. Its not eating now. Its bill looks pale. My neighbor gave it to me the day it hatched. It didn't walk for 2 days then perked up and seemed great but now has suddenly dropped off. I added nutridrench and electrolytes to its water today and tried giving it some moist food but it won't eat. I have some antibiotic powder but I'm not sure if ducks can even have this antibiotic since they cant have medicated feed

Agh, your a good mom! Hope the little guy makes it.. It doesn't sound to good.. When we know a chick or duckling is past saving and know it won't thrive, we put them in the freezer so they don't suffer anymore.. :hit so sad.. Keep us posted..

Hi everyone
im kinda new to ducks and chickens just moved to the country and have 3 (1being a drake) ducks, 10 chickens 3 roosters, which all live together in the same extra large pen.

i have a small problem well im not sure if its a problem byt i have over 10 nesting boxs and the chickens have all clamed 1 small nesting box.

I currently have 3 hens and 1 duck laying eggs all together in the same box? But they are all fertile eggs and duck eggs
and 1 hen that is going broody well 1 that i know of.

Is this common?
What should i do?
how will this work out if all 3 hens and the duck go broody in the same nesting box lol ....

Please help me understand it :)

When we got our duck's when our chicken flock was established, plus about 3 different generations.. So after a bit the duck's were not fitting in.. We made a area just for them out in the front yard.. We only have one hen duck.. But I can say that yes, the chicken's all try to lay in the same box.. Some of the time.. We have fake egg's and put them in other nesting box's & that seems to help.. They figure it out.. You have to have lots of room for them to all get along, especially if someone is getting pecked on.. The duck's are messy and the chickens & babies would sink fast & been dead in no time, if they fell into the duck pond, which is just a horse trough.. Pond sounds better.. :frow
