The Duck Thread

Thank you! His crop feels normal once you feel it, looks big when he is crouched down. I brought him in. His poop is watery, light green with some dark ones intermittently. He is fussy for his food, and backs away from his food with his head down in a weird way? Left him, he was preening himself..... thank you so much for your replies...I put Probiotics and electrolytes on his.water, minced garlic with the peas and corn I left him..... Will add molasses to his water.

They look so happy.. We use a horse trough, but they don't swim as much as I thought they would.. What do you use your duck egg's for?? We need a few new recipes.. I think I am going to try Egg Foo Young.. Anyone try that??

I love duck egg quiche, pumpkin muffins and pretty much everything. The only time I ever use chicken eggs is for over easy eggs.

I would be quite upset over the egg eating. I hope it was just a random thing! But they are cute!

Is egg foo young the bean sprouts, onions and egg? Yes, I have made that and it's so very good!

I also love the egg custard I make with duck eggs. No sugar, just a little honey. Wow.

I based it on this recipe - http://www.yummly.com/recipe/external/Easy-Egg-Custard-Epicurious

but instead of 2 eggs plus two yolks I just use two duck eggs. And instead of the sugar, I just used about a tablespoon of honey. I find the milk and the egg yolk make it sweet enough - with nutmeg it's a real exotic treat.

And great quick breakfast.

the big brown ones or the little brown speckled white ones?  the little ones are coturnix quail eggs....or atleast they look like coturnix quail eggs as they look just like the eggs i have in my bator

Has anyone ever had a duck that just doesn't lay? And yes, definitely a female. She very rarely lays though. A year old, pekin. When she does lay, she has big beautiful perfect eggs. Eats and drinks and swims. No injuries. Just doesn't lay, often....

Bob and Aflack great couple but Aflack produces small nest and normally 7 egg's then goes to nesting just the way she is and has never hatched more then 5 ducklings in any single year but yet she had a sister who would have a clutch of 20 or more egg's and hatch just about everyone of them egg's basically ducks are a lot like humans in some aspects .....

Please follow direction completely, or you may have more problems with him.

Thank you, I'm going to have to try it in a few days. I still have peach preserves I have to make before I can start something new. Once I finish with the peaches I will be set on jam for the year

I love canning but it's a pain in the butt to get everything set up and then cleaned up.
