The Duck Thread

Well I've been going puck, puck, puck.. a lot and he listens but stays his distance. He was originally hanging out under a bird feeder at our cousins home. They are only weekenders so are not really there a lot and didn't really want him. We tried to coax him down hill with food but it didn't work. What finally appears to have worked was the flute music from my sister-in-law who is visiting right now!
A music loving rooster, maybe he'll sing for ya. In stead of waiting to look at his leg tag why not mosey on over the the closest neighbors house and ask them if they are missing any chickens. don't say rooster just chickens. If they are they should know if it's a rooster that's gone astray and say so. Also he could have been dumped out, we had a rooster dumped at our church last year early fall and looked all over for the owners after that failed I tried finding him a home since I already had 2 roos. well I ended up bringing him home and kept him till April of this year when I finally found him a good home. Alot of animals get dumped especially extra males.

Boy do I know about dumping animals on farms. I do cat rescue and always find the poor farmers overrun with kittens and cats dumped on them. I never thought about roosters but considering their noisy behavior and the fact that most farmers would not want more then one or two that's certainly a possibility. I know the neighbors on the sides of us do not have chickens but over the hill (a mile through the woods) they do, so I'll ask. He may have followed some wild turkey over this way.

Fuzzy at 4-5 weeks. Does it look like he/she is still looking like a muscovy?

Just got our first ducklings and ducks today! 5 babies and momma and daddy. Adorable and we love them already! Our sweet Ancona's. And the new duck house my kids and I built in two days for them. It cost us about $15 for hinges and a latch and some screws. The rest was stuff we had around the house.
