The Duck Thread

I'm new as well, I started in March, but very soon I'm going to be overrun with ducks!!!

Yay, a newbie like me. Did you start with chickens? How did you decide to become mom to ducks?

I'm still fairly new too. Started with 3 ducks and 5 roosters given to me by my sister-in-law. Lost 3 roosters before we got Fort Knox built, then lost the 3 ducks to a snow storm. So I decided to hatch my own ducks. Hatched the 4 Swedish, plus a self blue slate turkey! Then the turkey was lonely, because the ducks were mean to her, so I bought a couple chicks (couldn't find baby turkeys). Then I loved the incubating so much, I hatched 10 lavender orpington chicks. Then I bought 6 more chicks like my first two, plus 2 silkies! Good grief... that's why we call it chicken math and duck math... they just keep multiplying!

(now I'm on the hunt for bantam eggs to hatch!)

No chicken business (besides childhood). I started straight with ducks. The contemplation was between guinea fowl and ducks. I finally decided on ducks as they have personality than guineas.

WVduckchick, who is your whitish girl with the eyeliner? She's cute! Well, they all are, but yeah.....

My three babies hanging out at the pond. My (mallard?) Jill, Freddy the Pekin, and I am hoping that Cayuga in the back is Posie instead of Edgar Alan Poe. However, he has started making a whistling noise instead of peeping, so I think I have two boys :(

@WVduckchick - wow, you've been busy! I just saw baby turkeys this past weekend & they were adorable. Good thing I didn't get too close or some would've come home with me. I admired them from afar.

@Kathy farms - I think I have a guinea bird hanging around my place. Kept waking me at 3 am with its warbling. I suspect this bird belonged to someone and either ran away or was dumped. I'll be reading up on how to attract it, I suppose, to make sure it's okay. Thankfully, I think I can get my neighbor to home it.

@RedIII - drat, can't see the picture.

Wow, yours are beautiful. My one with the eyeliner is Opie, my crested baby. They are all Swedish, I suppose I got more of the splash genes in 2 of mine, and ended up with more white than the others. Chibs is almost completely white, with just some black on the base of his back and tail. Opie is about half & half!

First a couple baby pics, just for fun:
This is Chibs, he was the last hatchling.

And these are Opie:

I think they were a couple weeks old here:

And more recently:
