The Duck Thread

if you wouldn't  dump your ducks, that's great, so you probably shouldn't suggest that other people do it. As for someone look to re-home ducks, for whatever reason, I see no problem with that, even if they sell them for meat.

I would rather let them go at a pond than sell them for meat!

Huh, how weird. :hugs
how long were they out? Were they still in the water when he went out? Is there a mom to give then the oil to float? Any chemicals near by?

Usually I have them out all day if it's warm enough. They have access to swim and it's shallow enough that they get out and fluff out. It is so shallow that they usually splash all the water out in a minute or two and then I don't refill it until later in the day. Today they were only out for 10-15 minutes! They don't have a mother and we don't use chemicals or pesticides. We're an organic, chemical free household

Not sure if you get them to drink. Do you have acv? Add some to water .. also what feed are you feeding them? make sure you have niacin to add if you need to..

Okay, so they should be okay, but if they were soaked, then my best guess is that they got too cold.

I am most certainly not risking it again. If they got too cold and I caused the problem, I will never forgive myself. I was checking on eggs my broody hen abandoned and I knocked a flashlight ontop of one of the eggs and it was a chick that was almost completely developed and we had to put it down. I'm devastated about that! I will not let those duckling swim now until they are completely feathered. I won't risk it again!!

You say it's real hot maybe they got over heated, could the water have gotten hot too?
