Anyway, this is our pig eating with our ducks. She was an owner surrender

A micro pig is the same as a pot belly pig. They were developed in Europe to use for lab experimentation and can get to weigh up to 300lbs although they average from 90 to 175lbs.

Many people don't realize that although they pretty small compared to the average size farm pig, they are much bigger than media and some breeders will lead you to believe.

No one can guarantee that this type of piggy will stay smal or grow up to a certain size either because rather than an actual recognized breed they are a tailored variation of the common farm pig.

Some breeders will even show off the parents claiming they will stay small like them, but since pigs can reproduce before they are full grown this can also be misleading. What's worse, in the case that they are of spring of too young parents they might have a very short life span.

I work with the local chapter of SPCA animal rescue, we often see abandoned or owner surrender piggies because they get "too big"

The best way to know how big your piggy will get is adopting a full grown one that you believe is the right size for you from a shelter or rescue.

If you want to get a baby piggy you have to be sure you'll be able to keep him even if they get big.
I am familiar with pot belly pigs and hear they make wonderful pets. I have also heard they are extremely intelligent and sensitive.

I think it's great you work for the SPCA. But it is sad people abandon their animals because they can't handle them.

I found my first duck egg this morning!  Actually my first 2 eggs.  I didn't really expect her to lay this year, so I hadn't paid as much attention.  But when I went out this morning, there was an egg, so I looked around and found another!  Have to be from yesterday and the day before.  One was half hidden, so I understand why I missed it.

Yeah, my girl is laying!!!  :weee
Give Juice my congratulations.

I'd say if you want a small pig go with a Juliana pig. Unlike 'micro' pigs, Juliana pigs are a real pig breed that have been selectively bred to be small and generally get to be only 30 to 50 pounds. http://www.julianapig.com/BreedStandard.html

Definitely a better option but remember that this breed is still being "fine tuned" since it's regulation/standardization started very recently (2012) so there is still a small element of chance involved

Her name is Princess Toadstool. The chickens sometimes use her as a perch!! She's a big lazy sweetheart so she just lets them.

She'll have a grunt-off with Carlotta (our turkey) when there is an organic granny smith on the "people food" menu, but she'll snatch it quickly and Carlotta will take the little bits that fall out of her mouth
