The Duck Thread

They could just have a plywood cutout at the entrance to the fowl section with an arm about 4 ft off the floor:

You must be this knowledgeable to buy this duck...

One of the Fab Five has grown rapidly and is much larger than the others. They are 4 wko now. When "Big Bird" walks, it looks like how I feel after a leg work out or riding the stationary bike too long. I've also noticed her legs shake and she sits a lot. I am supplementing with Niacin. Is this a Niacin deficiency or a sign of too much Niacin?

My Pekin had a hard time walking during some of her growth spurts (not all the time). She got niacin and she could always walk, but you could see it was harder some days than others and she would lay down a lot. When she got to 6 lbs, she slowed down her growth and her legs caught up and she was fine. There were some days that she gained about 15% of her body weight so it was no wonder her legs complained a bit. So I would keep an eye on her and make sure it isn't wrong (like a twist or something), but just fatigue. And listen to anyone else with other experiences.

Ooops! Forgive me - I miss posts at times…. Okay - I am not a hatcher, but we have a bunch of them on the duck forum.

I can give you this link and it should help the second question.

Let me see if I can find some incubator recommendations, or someone who can give them.

I hatch Calls, not 'scovies, but depends on your budget and needs... I highly recommend hand turning, or at least laying eggs on their sides and not regular egg turners, but that's not always feasible...

For cheapest good one, I recommend the Hovabator Genesis 1588... I prefer my old redwood cabinet though, lol...

I also heard that Rcoms are good, but pricey... believe they have one that turns eggs by rolling them from underneath...

Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Yep, depends on a few things...

How many do you plan to hatch at one time? How often do you plan to hatch? Budget you plan to spend?

I love my Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance with humidity pump. Lots of great options out there, so give a little more info and I'm sure we can direct you a little better!
