The Duck Thread

That's a cute pic :3 key is timing, I go down to their pen and wait for about an hour till they're done bathing. I just hit the camera button rapidly and delete the blurry ones.

I live in Death Valley California and we do not have pigeons unless they belong to someone but we do have quail as people let them go but no the little birds are young chickens and ducks and once a year geese .. Here this duck is waiting on his girl in the upper left hand corner to hatch her ducklings and you can see the geese have their goslings .. Even the young duck sleeps with a young gosling .... In the spring there are baby's everywhere .... What a mess in the early summer ... Cute ya ..... The yard only holds so much so I wind up selling to local people in the spring and summer .. I hope I answered your question but if not please ask again .... gander007 :old
Ya in the second pic there were little speckled birds near the guineas. Thanks

The Speckled ones were called Speckled Russian Orloff's ..

They are very mellow birds but the roo's crow a lot ..

Really a docile bird ...

With a eagle look to the eye ..

Buddy and his lady friends ...

Is this the photo with Speckles ..

This is what they look like at 4 weeks ... A great chicken to have around if ya want mellow chickens ..

Question: When I get the ducklings they will be small. When can I move them outside without any warmth from heat lamps.

Also, since I already have 2 ducks can I put the babies in 1/2 of our 10x10 enclosure with a screen barrier between them and the oldies; will the oldies be more likely to accept the new ones if they can see the new ducks at night. I was hoping that since there are only 2 oldies that they would accept the babies, but I understand they probably won't. It would keep the babies safer if they all stayed together since they will be free roaming when they get old enough. My 2 oldies/hens are free roaming during the day and know how to stay out of trouble (so far). They are only in their enclosure at night. The babies will have to be in the enclosure until they are big enough to be out. Is there anything I can do to get them together?

Thanks!
Mandy

I had the same exact situation as you last year, I had 2 oldies and I wanted to introduce 6 new baby ducklings to them. The oldies didnt except them till they were full grown. But now they're inseparable. :3 hope this helps

Hey, so I have 2 flocks of ducks (don't ask why, 6 of them just didn't get along with the rest, so they have a separate pen) and in 1 flock, there's only 2 female and 7 males, they all get along, I'm not able to get anymore ducks at all and I can't give away any drakes. In the spring, should I pen up the 2 females with 1 male? I want baby ducks, but I do t want any over bred ducks.
