The Duck Thread

Please help me I need to know how old these eggs are and if they are okay? They look like they are around 25 days and very veiny but there is this liquid near the air sack and I don't get any movement but one wiggling in water

Ducks will lay year round if it is warm enough. Ducks are much hardier than chickens when it comes to cold.

Interestingly it's not heat that makes them lay, it's light! They need a long enough photoperiod for their bodies to produce eggs.

Though too cold and your eggs might freeze before you collect them.

Yep! My girl laid all last winter. Found many a frozen/busted egg! Finding white eggs in the snow is a blast!

Hey, can anyone explain the differences between Silver Appleyard and Welsh Harlequin ducklings?

Silver Appleyard ducklings have a distinct v shaped cap, and Welshies have a smoked color to their head... if that makes sense, lol... I have a book with pics, I'll see if I can take pics of them to show you later when I can... :)

Do some Silver Appleyards have a very faint eye stripe?
Also the lady said this was a darker phase of Silver Appleyard- is that true? (Not mallard, they are illegal here)

Sorry, correction... Silver Appleyard ducklings should have a 'mohawk' stripe and dark tails... they have kinda an eye stripe, sometimes... and there is a dark phase, but hard to tell which are true or crossed without breeding and growing them out...

Bottom pic is typical Silver Appleyard ducklings... top is 2 different dark phases...
