Hey guys I hatched out 8 ancona ducklings. They are 4 to 5 weeks old now and 1 of them has started quacking. We now know for sure she is a girl. I noticed her bill is pink and the other 7 have tan bills. The others are also making whisper noises. Some are still chirping. Please tell me I don't have 7 drakes and 1 hen?

Just give them more time... 4-5 weeks is early still...

Good luck! If they were mine, that is how it would be. My luck is horrid! That's why I got mine sexed.I KNEW what would happen! Lol

Is it possible the beak color doesn't mean anything? I know it did with my rouens.. :( I've had the worst luck this year with getting an overwhelming number of boys.. :(

Most of the time, in juvies, bill color has no connection to gender... it's only when they mature that in some breeds the drakes bill turns green... *I think* it's only with certain top quality lines of Welsh Harlequins that they can be sexed by bill color... I'm not totally sure on Anconas, but I don't think bill color is reliable with them either...

ETA: I have 2 Rouen (mixes) and one has light bill, other has dark... both are female...

I think with Pekins it doesn't mean anything. I have 3 hens all have different color beaks. One is yellow, one is peach color and one is a darker yellow. And I know they are hens, they're laying eggs. I agree, give them more time. My little girls didn't start to quack until they were over 2 months old.
