I didn't see anything in that article that would indicate it would cause any harm to ducks-can you
clarify where you saw that?

@FishingMT I live in Southern Idaho and we have a LOT of sagebrush. And a lot of water fowl including ducks who use it for shelter on hot days when they are out of the water. I free range all of my poultry (ducks, chickens, turkey) and while I can't say with certainty that they do or don't eat it, I CAN say that if they ingest it, it doesn't seem to create any problems. My best guess based on my experience is that it is a-ok to plant. Especially if you are planting native sagebrush to use as shelter.

Well, I personally don't plant anything in my run because mine don't have to be in it for any length of time (I work from home), plus the chickens pretty much ruin anything I plant. I have noticed that they (all of the poultry) tend to stay away from any of the perennial grasses and boxwood bushes, and they also leave my hostas alone. I tried scarlett runner beans to climb over the run (planted outside the run along the fence) to provide shade but for some reason they just never took off-so that's my fail and not because of the chickens. If you have the time, when you are fishing just observe what's around you and use those plants as a starting point. As long as you aren't on national park land I would think you could even dig some plants to transplant in their run-they should do really well.

I got my first ducklings 6-7 weeks ago, and 1) boy they are a lot of work before they get yo go outside for good! 2) they are so flipping funny! Such varied personalities and nosey, nosey, nosey!

Mine will go outside this week for good (except short, in house visits if they want).

So jealous! My little guys aren't a fan of me yet. Wish I could have been home for their first few days. I'm picking them up all the time now. Hoping they warm up.

Lol. This is just the last couple days, they used to hate me. Then I started sitting in the brooder and feeding them and boom! It really helps if the brooder is big enough to sit in.
