I couldn't help myself, they were selling "Americana's" at the feed store. I am a sucker for those fluffy cheeks, sure hope my husband doesn't kill me!I should never be allowed to go to the feed store alone during chick days...![]()
How many chickens do you already have? After you get enough, it is impossible to count them, he won't notice.

Interesting! I will have to check that breed out-I don't know anything about it. They were probably hatched over the weekend, so it's kind of hard for me to tell, at this point. The comb size looks very similar to the others and the others don't have much of a beard, either, but you can tell they are going to. This one also seems to have more of a "tail" than the others. Thanks for the info!
Where did you get the supposed Araucana? Who ever is selling it needs to know WHAT they are selling and not claim they are something else.
Araucana do not have feathered legs or feet. Plus, read on

Hello everyone, I am new here and have a question. I bought a rooster today from my local farm supply store. They had some fully grown hens and roosters they were using for egg for their incubator. The guy said this rooster was an "Aracauna" rooster. I figure probably not, but what do you all think? I think he is kinda pretty and he definitely did not like being in with the much larger roosters they had. Anyway here is a pic of him.

Tail or no, there is NO WAY that is an Araucana. Araucana DO NOT have beards OR muffs. That bird looks like one of the ZZ top front guitarists. As above, people are being sold "stuff" by the uninformed.
And roosters will "mount" other roosters in dominance.
Hens will "mount" as well. My bossy one that wants to make sure EVERYONE knows SHE is the top bird mounts several of the others, including those that are larger. She is an Ancona.
We need to see a better picture of his tail. From what I can see he looks like he has one and looks a lot like a Blue Wheaton Americauna. My guess would be that he is was some ones project bird and didn't meet the standard so he was culled. Very beautiful guy no matter what. The is a New Americauna thread check it out and ask thee experts over there. They are nice...
AmerAUcana, not Americauna. The latter would be nothing more than an EE being sold (frequently by hatcheries) with a name that sounds like "the real thing". AKA: Americana
My EEs were being wimps this morning- we finally got some much-needed rain in Texas and the girls couldn't be bothered to walk in the wet grass/clover. They hung out in the covered run with the door wide open- funny birds. They'll be three months old this weekend
Also wanted to share photos of the grazing boxes we put in the open run. Used cedar and cage wire (1"x1" mesh) to create boxes where the pullets can only graze the tips off the grass and clover underneath. Will keep them from turning their run into a moon scape.
They have plenty of ground and their sand pit/dust bath area as well, and seem to actually enjoy laying on the boxes when temperatures rise- might be an air circulation thing- they're surprisingly smart (some times).

They are still young for rain at 3 months. Mine didn't go out in the rain then either. Now that they are 9 months old (and tired of snow) they don't mind going out in the rain.
I like the "chicken protectors" for the greens.
Got a question i have a splash ameraucana rooster over newhampshire red hens (i was told this will make an Easter Egger) what colors will they throw and what color eggs will they lay i was told green. They are going on lock down Sunday and hatching soon I'm very excited and cannot wait to see how they turn out was wondering if i could find out before the suspense is killing me they just cannot hatch out soon enough.
I believe "blue gene" + white layer yields blue eggs, "blue gene" with brown layer yields green. Since the New Hampshire is a brown layer: green. Of course that assumes the rooster is carrying the blue gene.
