and the wonderful world of chickens! EE's are really fun and I highly recommend them. I haven't had barred rocks myself, but a lot of people really love them. I hear they are good egg layers and have very friendly personalities. Do you want Barred Rocks because you like the barred feather pattern? If that is the case you may also want to look at Dominiques and Cuckoo Marans.

Welcome! I have 2 Barred Rocks that are almost a year old and love them! They layed almost every day right through the winter. I did help a little with leaving a light on in their coop until about 8-8:30pm. Definitely recommend them!

I have 2 barred rock chicks that are about 5 weeks old.So far we have enjoyed them very much, but mine complain alot when you seperate them and try to hold them. But other than that they are good girls. They run to the front of the cage like everybody else when I call them for treats.

I have an EE named Rosemary too! She's more darkly colored though
Thats awesome! My daughter picked out her name.Actually my kids named all of our chicks except for the Buff Orph.I named her turnip, lol! The chicks are all named for flowers, fruits, veggies or plants. We bought all sexed pullets so hopefully we won't get a surprise and have to change a name, hahaha!!

Ms Minnie is half Ideal Poultry Partidge Chantecler and half Ideal Ameraucana EE. She lays green eggs. Rooster is all EE (Wheaten) .
She is setting on 15 eggs. Eggs are Rooster x Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, and EE's. All the EE's and Rooster trace back to one survivor blue egger that is still laying strong at 5 years.

I have loved every barred rock I have ever had. They seem to have a very sweet nature and are friendly.

So we went to the feed store to get 2 "aracaunas" and 2 Polish. I like the pretty Easter Eggers and their eggs. I am not even sure why hatcheries bother to call them anything else. They had no Polish, the hatchery had a bad hatch, so we got three EE instead. They are all supposed to be one day old, but the 2nd one is the only one who looks that young. The other two are a little too feathered to be that young.

Ok everyone, I have 4 EE chicks (hopefully girls, but we'll see) and I am trying to figure out how old they are. We have had them a week and the guy at the feed store was not sure how old they are. What do you all think?
