i also have 2 fullgrown EE hens. They and the leghorn I have are very skittish as adults too. I didn't raise them as chicks. They came from a farm where the chickens are rarely handled, but free range all day with the turkeys and other birds.

Yeah, one of my ameraucanas is really skittish, but was raised like yours, and I got her as a POL.

I've had a variety of dispositions in my EEs. I had one that I nick-named "Dive-Bomb" because she'd rush up suddenly and practically be underfoot when food was coming. I've had others that shrieked like they were dying if I so much as brushed against them on the roost while closing up the coop at night. Last summer I lost my favorite Ameraucana, a blue one, during a heat wave. She used to fly up to my shoulder if I whistled at her. She'd do it from the roost and even from the ground. I think they definitely go through a skittish phase from about 4 weeks to point of lay. I guess it's all those juvenile hormones and such. Overall I'd say they are the flightiest of the breeds I have. Jersey Giants being pretty much mellow slugs (in a good way), Marans being curious but sedate, then the EEs and Ameraucanas being the most active. My silver Am hen is abnormally calm from what I've heard about them in general so I hope she passes that on to some of her offspring from pairings with my EE gents.

Here you are, folks. The cutest little owl-faced Easter-egger bantam chick, Hika Ma. I suspect Ma is a boy by how wide his comb is and how big his feet are already, but as long as he behaves, he can stay.

That is one of the prettiest EE chicks I have seen. I want one lol! It is adorable.

Everybody is getting EEs with more unigue colors. I have 2 with the traditional EE pattern. A tan one that is pictured in my avatar and a blue and brown one. I am hoping eventually I get a buff and white colored on and a black and white one. Maybe one day I will get one with those colors!

Ha! Aww-- but you gotta love 'em. ;D My one EE has ALL different colors- black, peach, orange, black penciled- it's nuts!
